Closing of the 28th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council
The session adopted 34 important resolutions and decisions, along with three statements by the President of the Human Rights Council.
On March 26-27 at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva (Switzerland), the United Nations Human Rights Council (HURC) held its final discussions, adopting 34 important resolutions and decisions, along with three statements by the President of the HURC at its 28th regular session.
The Vietnamese delegation was led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Nguyen Trung Thanh, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, attending the 28th Session.

The resolutions and decisions adopted by consensus at this session relate to many issues of high concern to the international community, such as the implementation of economic, cultural and social rights; strengthening international cooperation on human rights; protecting privacy in the digital age; increasing investment in children's rights; ensuring equal participation of people with disabilities in society, environmental and human rights, religious freedom and tolerance; preventing genocide; the situation in Syria, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Iran, the occupied Palestinian territories; the establishment of the Democracy and Rule of Law Forum under the Human Rights Council, etc.
The Vietnamese delegation proactively participated and actively contributed to the discussion and adoption of Resolutions and Decisions of the 28th Session in the spirit of promoting the protection and expansion of people's rights, respecting the UN Charter, international law and practices as well as the economic characteristics, cultural traditions and development of countries and regions.
The Vietnamese delegation also emphasized that the Human Rights Council needs to make efforts to promote dialogue and constructive cooperation, persistently seek balanced and satisfactory solutions to disagreements, and avoid politicizing the Human Rights Council, which would affect the Council's reputation.
At this session, Vietnam co-sponsored and had the 28th Session of the UN Human Rights Council unanimously adopt 05 resolutions on the implementation of economic, cultural and social rights, on the establishment of the UN Independent Expert on the protection of people with albinism, on the right to work, on cultural rights and cultural diversity, and on the right to food.
The 28th regular session was held from March 2-27 in Geneva, Switzerland, opening the official activities of the Human Rights Council in 2015, the second year Vietnam participated as a member of the Human Rights Council for the 2014-2016 term.
During the 4-week meeting, the Vietnamese delegation made many statements at official sessions on various issues, expressing national views, or representing ASEAN as ASEAN Co-Coordinator in 2015.
The next regular session of the Human Rights Council is scheduled to be held in June 2015. On April 1, 2015, the Human Rights Council will urgently convene a Special Session on the human rights violations committed by the terrorist group Boko Haram./.
