(Baonghean.vn) - The Formosa mega-project has an investment capital of up to 28 billion USD, a total area of over 3,300 hectares, including the sea area (Son Duong port).
Despite being significantly impacted by the global economic downturn, thanks to decisive and comprehensive solutions in leadership, management, and administrative reform, as well as the issuance of policies to support investors, Ha Tinh has maintained its investment attraction activities and consistently ranks among the top provinces nationwide. In particular, it ranks 6th in the country in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI).
The Son Duong Iron and Steel Complex and Deepwater Port Cluster mega-project is Vietnam's largest FDI project (to date), invested by Formosa Group (Taiwan) in Ky Anh district (Ha Tinh province). According to Formosa Group's commitment, Phase 1 of the project will have an investment of US$7.9 billion, with a capacity of over 7.5 million tons of iron and steel per year and a cargo handling capacity of 30 million tons per year at Son Duong port. Phase 2 will increase the capacity of this iron and steel complex to 22.5 million tons per year, with an investment of up to US$28 billion.

| The project covers a total area of over 3,300 hectares, including the sea area (Son Duong port), with a land lease term of 70 years. To facilitate this mega-project, Ha Tinh province had to compensate and clear nearly 2,000 hectares of land, affecting almost 3,000 households in 9 communes in the southern part of Ky Anh district. | From National Highway 1A, there's a dedicated road leading directly into the mega-project, always bustling with all kinds of vehicles and machinery. |
| The Project Management Office building stands majestically at the entrance. |
| The "highways" crisscrossing the mega-project are filled with the hurried movements of vehicles carrying workers and supervisors. |
| Specialized construction materials are stockpiled at the construction site. |
| The goal of the mega-project is to build a steel plant with a closed-loop production line and the largest deep-water port in Southeast Asia, with a capacity of 22 million tons of steel per year and 1500 MW of thermal power. |
| The various types of pipelines scattered throughout the construction site are reminiscent of international gas and oil pipeline projects in the West. |
| Huge, state-of-the-art machine parts are being assembled. |

| Every day, tens of thousands of engineers and workers from 28 different nationalities work on this "mega-project," constructing 28 different packages, primarily focusing on blast furnaces I and II (steelmaking furnaces) of the iron and steel plant project. |
| This includes unskilled laborers from Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces participating in some simple stages of the process. |
| Because the construction projects cover a large area, it is necessary to use vehicles to transport workers directly to the construction site. |
| In some places, you only see motorbikes trudging back and forth like robots. |
| Large, steel-framed dome-shaped buildings, some larger than football fields, are under construction. |
| Upon completion, the project will be self-sufficient in electricity, water, gas, and other utilities. (In the photo: Transformers at the thermal power plant have been fully assembled.) |

The investor is committed to mobilizing maximum resources, striving to complete 3 blast furnaces with a capacity of 10.5 million tons of steel per year by 2015, with 13 wharves in operation, and to complete 32 wharves by 2017, meeting the requirements for transporting and exporting finished products of this iron and steel plant. |
| To expedite the project's progress, temporary operational areas were set up at the construction site. |

| A corner of the "city," densely packed with high-rise buildings, serves as the residence for foreign engineers and workers within the project's premises. |
