Compared to the past, the eye disease model has changed a lot. If previously infectious eye diseases were the majority, now eye diseases related to metabolism are on the rise. In order to meet the people's medical examination and treatment needs, over the past 3 years, Nghe An Eye Hospital has built a roadmap and plan for developing specialized specialties.

In 2016, the Eye Hospital had 36,500 patients coming for examination. Of these, 6,700 were surgeries of all kinds. Along with Phaco surgery, contributing to the elimination of blindness, the Eye Hospital is still determined to develop a specialized path in vitreous and retina.

The rate of patients undergoing vitreoretinal surgery is increasing due to metabolic disorders such as diabetes causing retinal detachment.

To prepare for specialized departments, the hospital has sent surgical teams and technicians for formal training at the Central Eye Hospital. At the same time, while waiting for trained human resources, it is taking full advantage of resources to purchase equipment. The hospital currently has 02 vitreoretinal surgery teams with 02 Masters and 4 technicians.

The hospital is equipped with all the necessary machines for diagnosis and surgical intervention such as: surgical microscope with CarlZeiss inverted Biom unit with magnification, tomography, slit cutting functions, helping doctors accurately detect eye injuries.

The hospital is also equipped with a Centurion vitreous cutter, a Zeiss HD5000 OCT scanner, a VXi10 fluorescence angiography machine, a Valon multi-point photocoagulation laser, and AVGEF anti-angiogenesis drugs... with a total value of nearly 20 billion VND.

In 2016, the hospital performed dozens of vitrectomy surgeries and gas expansion and belt injections to treat retinal detachment. More than 150 cases were injected with intraocular anti-neovascular drugs; thousands of patients were scanned and angiographed to diagnose and monitor fundus diseases, and dozens of patients were treated with laser. In the coming time, Nghe An Eye Hospital will continue to promote specialized vitreoretinal work; the Vitreoretinal Glaucoma Department has been established; and professional cooperation with major Eye Hospitals such as the Central Eye Hospital and Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital will be strengthened.

Without this autoclave, the instruments can only be used once, leading to high treatment costs for patients. Now with the autoclave, a set of instruments can be used up to 3 times, greatly reducing costs for patients.
