New York hospital "recruits" robot as gynecologist
(Baonghean.vn) - On October 26, Elmhurst Hospital in New York purchased a DaVinci robot to perform non-invasive treatments on women. Since 2000, this type of machine has been used in a number of minor surgeries.
While still new to many, doctors stress that robots allow them to avoid some of the side effects of conventional surgery.
“Robotic surgery has several important benefits, including faster recovery times (possibly leaving the hospital in 1 day) and less blood loss,” said Dr. Barry Brown, director of obstetrics and gynecology at Elmhurst Hospital.

The DaVinci machine will perform women's health procedures, including removing tumors from the uterus, without the need for a doctor on hand.
Based on the machine's high-definition 3D projection, doctors will control the movement of the robotic arms to perform surgery.
The hospital has paid up to £1.6 million (VND44 billion) for the system, with annual maintenance fees of £82,000 (VND2.2 billion).
Thanks to this device, doctors can perform “keyhole” surgery that helps prevent scarring and limit post-operative pain.
“The DaVinci has more joints and range of motion than the hand or traditional surgical instruments can provide,” said gynaecologist Dr Jennifer Mayo of St Patrick’s Hospital. “The DaVinci has allowed us to increase our surgical capabilities.”
