Nghe An Oncology Hospital: Promoting the role of trade unions in creative labor and scientific research

SOCIETY EXISTS THROUGH FAITH AND DEVELOPS THROUGH SCIENCE

Henri Frederic Amiel - Swiss philosopher once said: "Society exists thanks to faith and develops thanks to science", from another perspective, society has faith thanks to science. That shows the great significance of science for the development of the country in general and the health sector in particular.

With the motto that each scientific research topic, a technical solution applied to the actual examination and treatment contributes to helping patients enjoy advanced medical achievements, reduce treatment costs, and ease economic burdens, over the years, scientific research has become a widespread emulation movement among the medical staff of Nghe An Oncology Hospital.

Since its establishment, Nghe An Oncology Hospital has carried out research on 280 scientific topics, including 13 provincial-level scientific topics; 40 topics were reported at National Cancer Conferences. In 2014, the hospital won the Special Prize of Nghe An Provincial Science and Technology Award; in 2017 and 2020, the hospital won 2 First Prizes of this competition. Among these many topics, some highly practical topics stand out, which Nghe An Oncology Hospital is one of the first hospitals in the country to successfully implement, such as: Autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation method to treat leukemia; Treatment method for non-small cell lung cancer using radiofrequency ablation (RFA) using a guided robot... In Vietnam, Nghe An Oncology Hospital is the second unit in the country to successfully implement this technique.

Thanks to the promotion of research and application of science and technology in medical examination and treatment, the quality of professional activities of hospitals has been constantly improved, the capacity of using hospital beds has been increased and people have increasingly trusted. This shows that science and technology is truly the driving force and sustainable foundation for medical development, making an important contribution to social security, economic development, serving the cause of industrialization, modernization of the country and international integration.

PROMOTING THE ROLE OF UNION MEMBERS IN THE SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH MOVEMENT

The Scientific Council of Nghe An Oncology Hospital was established when the Oncology Hospital began operating in 2011. Every year, the Council holds meetings to review the outline of registered topics; assigns tasks to council members to help topics complete research and apply them to actual medical examination and treatment. At the same time, it guides hospital union members to research topics that are suitable to actual conditions and the need for innovation in each field of medical examination and treatment. Every year, the hospital holds conferences to report on science, evaluate and accept topics and propose directions and solutions to continue to research and apply topics in the process of performing the task of caring for and protecting people's health.

Sharing with us about the effectiveness of promoting the role of the Trade Union in promoting the scientific research movement at the unit, Meritorious Doctor, Dr. Pham Vinh Hung - Chairman of the Trade Union, Deputy Director of Nghe An Oncology Hospital said: The Executive Committee of the Trade Union regularly encourages and motivates the team of trade union members to seriously and actively research scientific topics to apply to medical examination and treatment. Thanks to that, the Hospital has now applied many advanced medical techniques that previously only Central-level hospitals could do; reducing treatment costs and pressure on upper-level hospitals, and most of all, creating trust and love from people in the province as well as neighboring areas for the hospital.

It is worth noting that the creative labor movement and scientific research at Nghe An Oncology Hospital have aroused and promoted creative potential, improved professional qualifications and demonstrated the determination of the medical team to strive to improve the quality of care and protect people's health. In 2022 alone, the Hospital has implemented the acceptance of 50 topics, 08 grassroots-level experience initiatives, reported the progress of 02 provincial-level science and technology topics; Completed the dossier to submit to the Department of Health for consideration of recognition of provincial-level initiatives in the first phase of 2022 for 06 scientific research projects; Developed an implementation plan and approved the application of 12 scientific research topics in 2022 in departments/offices. In addition, the hospital is also in the process of implementing 02 ministerial-level topics; Organized 16 online scientific activities on thematic topics in coordination with leading experts from K Hospital, Hanoi Medical University Hospital, Bach Mai Hospital... At the same time, the hospital also sent staff to attend conferences and seminars nationwide such as: Hai Phong City Cancer Prevention Conference, Can Tho Oncology Scientific Conference, Hue Annual Cancer Prevention Scientific Conference 2022, 23rd Annual Scientific Conference...

Through the scientific research movement, many doctors and medical staff of Nghe An Oncology Hospital have been awarded the Certificate of Creative Labor by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. This is the motivation for all union members of the hospital to continue researching many topics, scientific solutions as well as applying advanced medical techniques in examining and treating patients, contributing to improving the quality of health care and protection of the people.

A LEADER IN THE SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH MOVEMENT

During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh once emphasized: To have a strong Trade Union movement, good trade union cadres are needed. To achieve such outstanding achievements in the field of scientific research, it is impossible not to mention the doctor who is devoted to patients, enthusiastic with colleagues and has many initiatives and creativity - Meritorious Doctor, Dr. Pham Vinh Hung - Deputy Director, Chairman of the Trade Union of Nghe An Oncology Hospital.

With more than 1,000 union members and 34 departmental unions, in order to promote the capacity and role of individuals and groups, the "union leader" must always be the leader in the scientific research movement, and at the same time direct the hospital union to be creative in organizing, launching, propagating, implementing practical contents and bringing each activity into depth. With that motto, every year, Dr. Pham Vinh Hung and his colleagues participate in scientific research, especially implementing a series of initiatives and innovations with high applicability in the practice of examining and treating patients such as "Research on the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer by radiofrequency ablation (RFA) using a guided robot", "Research on clinical characteristics and computed tomography images of non-small cell lung cancer"; "Application of laparoscopic liver resection surgery to treat liver cancer"...

In order for scientific research activities to enter the life of each union member, the Chairman of the Hospital Union has directed the synchronous implementation of solutions: Correct orientation, coordination with departments in the hospital to deploy action programs on creative labor and scientific research to the department unions and each union member; Focus on innovation in methods and forms, taking productivity, quality and efficiency as the focus, closely linked with major movements of the year, concretizing into easy-to-understand and easy-to-remember slogans; The Union closely coordinates with specialized units to develop plans, contents, programs, launch and guide the organization and implementation of emulation movements in a scientific manner, suitable to the situation and tasks of the unit, concretizing emulation contents, making the movement profound, meaningful, and bringing practical results; Mobilize union members to actively, regularly and continuously participate in scientific research movements, creating a vibrant atmosphere, demonstrating self-awareness, unanimous determination to implement and bringing specific values. Timely reward and commend outstanding collectives and individuals in effective innovation and creativity; Build an information channel to provide union information on the creative labor movement and scientific research. Through that, also share solutions, experiences, commend achievements, create a premise for union members to be interested in scientific research and creativity in labor; Coordinate with units to support union members in registration procedures for implementing topics, participating in creative competitions organized by all levels, registering for awards on scientific research, creative labor, initiatives, improvements, technical solutions, etc.

With his great contributions and dedication to the cause of building and developing Nghe An Oncology Hospital in particular and the health sector in general, Meritorious Doctor Pham Vinh Hung has been a typical example for many years in the emulation movement "Good worker, creative worker", honored to receive Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister, Ministry of Health, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Provincial People's Committee, Nghe An Provincial Labor Federation; continuously awarded the Certificate of Creative Labor and the title of Emulation Fighter at the grassroots level for many years.
