Belly fat and its health risks

Belly fat not only affects your figure, but an oversized waistline can also lead to a host of undesirable health problems.

Make a plan to reduce your waist size quickly if you don't want to suffer from any of the following conditions.

Gallbladder problems

According to research by experts at the University of Kentucky at Lexington, women with excessively large waistlines face twice the risk of developing gallstones compared to other women.

Led by expert Chung-Jyi Tsai and his colleagues, the research team studied 42,000 women aged 39-66. During the study, the experts found that women with larger waistlines faced a 40% higher risk of developing kidney stones compared to other women.

Stealing bone health.

Researchers at Columbia University, led by expert Adi Cohen, have presented evidence showing that women with excessively large waistlines are more likely to face skeletal problems, particularly osteoporosis.

The study subjects were women aged 18-48 years old with no history of bone or joint diseases or previous fractures. Specifically, bone density was found to be 30% lower in women with abdominal obesity compared to women without abdominal obesity.

Increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

Experts warn that even people with average weight or even a slim figure who have a large belly have a risk of dying from cardiovascular disease that is three times higher than others.

The results of this study were presented by experts at the European Society of Cardiology Congress in Munich, Germany. Led by expert Lopez-Jimenez, he and his colleagues conducted research and investigated data from 12,000 people, including both men and women.

After 14 years of research, 2,500 people had died from various causes, and 1,100 had died from cardiovascular-related diseases.

Professor Lopez suggests that people with abdominal obesity have a 2.75 times higher risk of dying from cardiovascular disease and a 2.08 times higher risk of dying from any cause.

Another large-scale study, involving 360,000 Europeans and lasting 10 years, was conducted by experts from the Institute for Cancer and Nutrition Research.

Studies show that people with abdominal obesity have a higher risk of premature death compared to those with a normal waist circumference.

Specifically, those with larger waist circumferences (over 100 cm in men and over 89 cm in women) face twice the risk of premature death compared to those with smaller waist circumferences (86 cm in men and 71 cm in women). Furthermore, an increase of 5 cm in waist circumference further increases the risk of premature death by 17% in men and 13% in women.

Enemies in the bedroom

It's undeniable that carrying an oversized belly makes you less agile in all aspects of intimacy. Furthermore, belly fat increases estrogen levels and decreases testosterone levels, leading to a decline in libido in men. Moreover, men with large bellies may have difficulty fathering children.

Increased risk of diabetes

Belly fat is one of the causes of elevated blood sugar levels. This is because the amount of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins you consume exceeds the recommended limit.

Insulin's role in the body is to "neutralize" sugar levels, so if you consume excessive amounts of food, your pancreas will have to work continuously and at full capacity to produce more insulin than normal. If this continues, it can be a precursor to the incurable disease of type 2 diabetes.
