Caught bringing rosewood and foreign wine to Hanoi for sale

(Baonghean.vn) - Pham Ngoc Tuan went to Lao Bao border gate (Quang Tri) to buy nearly 300 kg of rosewood and 20 bottles of smuggled foreign wine on his way to Hanoi to sell for profit, but was arrested.

At 0:15 a.m. on May 12, on National Highway 1A, passing through Block 4, Quan Hanh Town (Nghi Loc), Nghi Loc District Police requested to stop and inspect a passenger bus with license plate 74B - 002.96. The vehicle was driven by Mr. Pham Ngoc Tuan (born in 1978), residing in Quarter 3, Ward 5, Dong Ha City, Quang Tri Province.

Upon inspection, the police discovered 20 bottles of foreign wine, MACALLAN 12 brand, 700ml, and 275 kg of rosewood in the truck’s trunk. Driver Tuan admitted that all of these goods were his and could not present legal documents.

A representative of Nghi Loc Forest Protection Department said that rosewood is a group I wood, an endangered and rare species that needs to be strictly protected.

Mr. Tuan confessed that he bought rosewood and wine from brokers at Lao Bao border gate (Quang Tri) to bring to Hanoi to sell for profit.

Currently, the entire shipment is being seized and handled by Nghi Loc District Police according to regulations.
