Suspected of stealing a phone, two sisters committed suicide by drinking weed killer
Neighbors held a party and lost their phones, so they suspected the two sisters of taking them. Out of frustration, a 12-year-old girl and her younger brother committed suicide by drinking weed killer.
On the afternoon of May 9, Tieu Can District Police (Tra Vinh) said they were investigating and clarifying the case of two children drinking weed killer because they were suspected of stealing a phone.
Through initial verification, on May 4, TTTQ (12 years old; residing in Ngãi Hùng commune, Tiểu Cần district) and his younger brother went to a neighbor's house to play because there was an engagement party there. Someone at the party lost their phone, so they suspected that Q. and her sister stole it. The two children insisted that they did not take it, but many people in the neighbor's family were still suspicious and threatened to call the police.
Feeling frustrated, the two children committed suicide by drinking weed killer. When their family discovered the two children's health problems, they checked them and found that Q. and his younger brother had drunk weed killer, so they took them to the hospital for emergency treatment, then transferred them to a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for treatment.
After the incident, the victim’s family and neighbors did not report it to the local authorities. The two families’ houses are isolated from the residential area and located in a deserted field.
