Man used knife to slash neighbor because he was suspected of breaking duck's leg
(Baonghean.vn) - Angry because he was suspected of breaking a duck's leg, Tran Huu Minh (Quynh Luu) used a knife to slash his neighbor, who is also his distant cousin, many times on the head and arms.
On the morning of May 9, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened the first instance trial of defendant Tran Huu Minh (born in 1962), residing in Quynh Chau commune, Quynh Luu district, Nghe An province, on the charge of "Murder".
It is known that Mr. Dinh Minh Tuan (born in 1972) is a neighbor of Tran Huu Minh's family. On November 16, 2023, while taking a lunch break, Mr. Tuan heard the sound of ducks calling outside the pond area of his house, so he got up to check.
When he got there, he saw Tran Huu Minh holding a broom to sweep the yard nearby and his family's ducks were running around, one of which had a crippled leg and could not walk. Thinking that Minh had broken the family's duck leg, Mr. Tuan spoke up to remind them. The two sides immediately had a conflict, argued loudly and then a fight broke out. However, when reminded by people in the same village, both sides returned to their homes.
A moment later, Tran Huu Minh picked up a machete with the intention of picking elephant grass to feed the cows. When he went out, he saw Mr. Tuan still standing at the pond bank. Feeling angry, Tran Huu Minh immediately ran over and slashed his neighbor many times on the head and left arm.
Mr. Tuan escaped and was taken to the emergency room by nearby residents. Thanks to timely emergency care, Mr. Tuan was out of danger, however, his disability rate at the time of assessment was 43% with 13 slashes.
At the trial, the defendant admitted his crime and apologized to the victim's family for the incident. The defendant said that his actions stemmed from a sudden outburst of anger, due to many conflicts in life that made him temporarily unable to control himself.
Considering the entire case as well as the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the panel of judges determined that the defendant's actions were particularly dangerous, however, the fatal consequences had not yet occurred but an appropriate sentence was still needed to serve as a deterrent. For the above reasons, the panel of judges decided to sentence defendant Tran Huu Minh to 8 years in prison for the crime of "Murder". At the same time, he must compensate the victim 180 million VND (80 million VND has been compensated).
