Swept away by floodwaters, two students were luckily rescued
(Baonghean.vn) - At 8:30 a.m. on October 16, in Hamlet 9, Bai Son Commune (Do Luong), two 5th grade students were swept away by water and were saved by a young man.
On the morning of October 16, Nguyen Trong Dat (11 years old, 5B class) and Nguyen Van Vi (11 years old, 4B class, Bai Son primary school), both living in hamlet 11, invited each other to visit a friend's house in hamlet 9, Bai Son commune. When they crossed the inter-hamlet road and encountered a strong whirlpool, the two children were swept away by the water, both themselves and their motorbike, into Khe Trang.

Mr. Thai Dac Kham (23 years old) in hamlet 9 was herding buffalo about 700 meters away. Hearing the cries for help, he ran to jump into the stream and swam out to the middle of the stream to save the children.
Mr. Kham said: "When I heard the cry for help, I immediately threw the phone and ran quickly to Khe Trang, and saw that the two children had been swept away by the water, each in a different direction. Vi had grabbed onto a rock, while Dat had been swept down the stream, drifting about 10 meters away. After saving Dat, I jumped down to bring Vi up."

It is known that this is a low-lying road, on October 15, it was flooded about 50m long, knee-deep, on the 16th it was only flooded about 15m, but the water was still flowing strongly. Below the road is a stream up to 2m deep. This is a dangerous place, during the flood season, many people and vehicles such as motorbikes and bicycles have been swept away by the water.

Mr. Hoang Van Ty, head of hamlet 9, said: "I and many other people here were present after Kham brought the two children to shore. Luckily, Kham was herding buffalo nearby, otherwise the incident would have been worse."
