Red carded, player goes crazy and headbutts referee to death
It is not uncommon for players to react angrily after being sent off by a referee. However, the incident became more serious after an amateur player in Mexico headbutted the referee, causing his death.
According to local media, the incident occurred during an amateur friendly match in the city of Tulancingo (Hidalgo state, Mexico) last Sunday (November 6). Player named Ruben Rivera Vazquez was sent off by referee Victor Trejo after a rough foul on an opposing player.

Referee Victor Trejo's body was covered with a tarp on the field while authorities investigated the incident. |
Angry at the referee's decision, Ruben lost control and headbutted referee Trejo in the chest, causing him to fall to the ground.
Initially, players and spectators at the stadium thought that referee Trejo was stunned by the headbutt and could not wake up. However, medical staff at the stadium later discovered that referee Trejo's heart had stopped beating. Despite intervention and the use of a pacemaker, the referee could not be saved.
Taking advantage of the chaos while referee Trejo was being treated, the perpetrator Ruben fled in a pickup truck. Ruben is still on the run and the police are searching for his whereabouts.
Violence in amateur football matches in Latin America is a serious problem. In February, an Argentinian referee was shot dead by a player after sending him off with a red card. The incident also occurred during a friendly match between two amateur clubs in the same city.
