Vegetables spoil very quickly. But with the right techniques, you can still keep them fresh for longer.

- Wrap drained vegetables in paper towels before placing them in plastic bags. This method works well for lettuce and celery. It will help keep vegetables fresh for at least a week.

- Make sure the paper towel isn't too wet. If it is, replace it with a fresh, dry paper towel.

- After slicing potatoes or onions, cover the sliced portion with a paper towel and store it back in a resealable plastic bag.

Fresh carrots can stay fresh if tightly wrapped in a plastic bag to prevent evaporation or stored in an airtight container. They can last for a week or longer.

- Potatoes, onions, ginger, garlic, and sweet potatoes should be stored in a dark place or in a dark-colored bag because sunlight causes them to sprout and become inedible. In stores, these root vegetables are often displayed in the light, which is not good for them.

Most vegetables will stay fresh longer if stored in a place where they are not exposed to water.

Note:

- This method is also effective at keeping ice cream from freezing. Simply wrap a pillowcase in ice cream and place it inside the ice cream container.

Bags or containers used for storing vegetables must be washed and dried thoroughly before use.
