The secret to "living peacefully" with rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a disease you face every day. But that doesn't mean it can stop you from enjoying the good things life has to offer. Following these tips will help you "live peacefully" with this disease:

1. Training

Exercise helps reduce inflammation, improve cardiovascular health, and may lower the risk of diabetes. It's important to find activities you enjoy. You could try walking, swimming, cycling, water aerobics, yoga, or tai chi.

2. Simplify household chores.

Housework can be particularly challenging for your joints. Look for ways to simplify chores to reduce fatigue. Clean one room a day instead of doing everything at once. Keep things organized from the start to save time on cleaning.

3. Eat a balanced diet.

There are several foods that can fight inflammation. Prioritize eating fish, as it is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are beneficial for people with RA. Fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids include herring, salmon, and tuna. Fruits and vegetables containing fiber can also reduce inflammation (strawberries are a particularly good choice). If possible, cook your food with unrefined olive oil, as it contains components that inhibit inflammatory enzymes.

4. See a doctor

Many RA patients have done very well with "targeted therapy," in which doctors adjust the treatment plan to achieve the goal. You need to see your doctor regularly to know how far you are in your treatment and if any changes are needed.

5. Cook smarter

Simplify cooking to save energy and have more vitality. When preparing meals, sit in a chair instead of standing. Use a slow cooker to create delicious meals with less effort. Buy kitchen utensils with handles. Cook larger portions each meal and store leftovers in the refrigerator.

6. Dress properly.

Clothing can also be painful, so opt for styles with Velcro closures, elastic waistbands, or zippers. If you feel better in the evening than in the morning, plan what you'll wear the next day to save energy when you get dressed. Sit down while getting dressed. Ask someone to put on your socks and shoes to avoid bending over.

7. Socialize with friends

Having many friends can help you live longer, so spend more time with them and consider expanding your social circle.

8. Controlling drug side effects

Medications used to treat RA can affect your body. Tell your doctor about any side effects you experience. Your doctor may change your medication or dosage. If the medication causes stomach pain or nausea, take it with food. If corticosteroids cause you to sleepless, ask your doctor if you can take them in the morning.
