The secret to good study of the 2015 Olympia champion

Van Viet Duc - the champion of the 15th Road to Olympia contest - is the name that has been mentioned the most in recent days in Quang Tri, but it seems that he has temporarily forgotten that victory and returned to his daily life.

In the arms of family, friends and teachers, Duc is still simple and gentle as ever.

Talking to us about his learning process, Duc said: “When I was in school, I did not focus on any particular subject but tried to study both natural and social subjects, considering them equally important. For me, Math is my strength but History and Geography are always an endless source of inspiration because I think that if I want to be good at knowledge, I must first understand the history of my country, like a tree must have roots, water must have a source.”

Duc added: “When studying in class, I try to concentrate on absorbing the knowledge that the teachers impart so that when I go home, I only need to review it to be able to grasp it firmly. In the remaining time, I can read books, learn more new knowledge as well as look up the Internet, find more information to improve my understanding. For me, I think I should only study when I feel most interested, I should not be constrained, put pressure on myself, that would be counterproductive.”

For 12 consecutive years, Duc has been an excellent student, winning first prize in the provincial Math competition for two consecutive years in grades 11 and 12. In the national high school exam, Duc registered for admission to the Faculty of Foreign Economics - Foreign Trade University with a score of 28.5.

Mr. Nguyen Tai Hanh, homeroom teacher of class 12A1, Quang Tri Town High School, said: “As someone who has been with Duc for three years of study, I see that today's achievements are the crystallization of his continuous efforts and attempts throughout a long period of training from childhood to adulthood. Although he is a very intelligent and studious student, he is not arrogant at all. On the contrary, he is always gentle, polite, respectful to teachers and helps friends in his studies.”

Having cherished the dream of participating in the Road to Olympia competition since he was in grade 5, Duc has prepared himself with a solid foundation for a long time. In order to grasp the knowledge in the most comprehensive way, always asking himself the question “why?”, he has constantly tried to study and accumulate knowledge from books and life.

With a score of 250, surpassing 3 opponents, Duc became the best climber in the 15th Road to Olympia competition.

Germany conquered the 2015 Olympia mountain with a glorious laurel wreath with its capacity, intelligence, diligence and perseverance.

Duc said: "The four friends who made it to the final round of the competition, I think everyone is excellent and deserves to be the champion, I'm just luckier than the others so I won this game. Winning or losing is not important, this is just a stepping stone for us to try harder in the future..."

Born into a family of three children, Duc is the eldest child in the family. His father is a forest ranger and his mother is a primary school teacher. Besides studying, Duc spends most of his time taking care of his younger siblings, as well as meeting friends and participating in activities organized by the school's Youth Union.

With the motto that learning and playing must go hand in hand, knowledge is not always learned from books but can be learned from friends, Duc always knows how to combine learning and playing to make life always full of joy and vitality. Duc dreams of becoming a successful businessman in the future.
