Secret to raising crispy carp
(Baonghean.vn) - Recently, crispy carp has become a 'favorite' dish, loved by many people at restaurants and eateries; the fish no longer has a fishy taste but is crispy and attractive.
The secret to raising crispy carp is very simple. Common carp are fed a special food, broad beans (also known as red beans, horse beans) 3-5 months before harvest, and the fish will become crispy carp. The fish's skin and meat become firm and when eaten, it has a special crunch and flavor.
Below are the technical steps for raising crispy carp for the highest efficiency.
Prepare ponds and cages
Ponds and cages should be arranged and designed in places with clean water sources, without industrial, agricultural or domestic wastewater flowing into them.
- For ponds:The pond has an area of 2,000 - 5,000 m2. The pond bottom is renovated, leveled, and inclined towards the drainage. The depth of the pond is greater than 2 m, the water depth is from 1.5 - 2 m. Raising crispy carp in the pond requires auxiliary equipment to create flow, which can use a pump or arrange a water fan. This is an important requirement to stimulate the fish to swim regularly and move to make the fish meat crispier.
Before raising fish, drain the water and dredge the mud. Then use lime to improve the pond bottom and kill weeds; dosage is 7 - 10 kg/100 m2, dry in the sun for 3 - 5 days. After the pond is improved, supply enough water in the pond from 1.5 - 1.8 m, the water supplied to the pond must be clean, not contaminated, and limit the water being cloudy.

When raising crispy carp, the water source must be clean, uncontaminated, and the water supply must be kept clear. |
- For cages:If the fish cage has a large area, it is necessary to choose a place with a depth of 3.5 - 4 m. The cage must be placed floating and anchored in a favorable position on the river, with a continuous water flow, a relatively moderate river water level and must be 0.3 - 0.5 m higher than the submerged height of the cage.
Stocking method and density
Before carrying out operations such as transporting to new ponds, cages or thinning, it is necessary to force the fish by fasting for about 1 day. Transfer the fish in cool weather, early morning or late afternoon.
Fish brought into farming have complete fins and scales, no scratches, no loss of mucus, and uniform size. Active state, quick swimming, submerged in water in schools; no signs of disease.
Crispy carp can be raised 1 - 2 crops/year, 3 - 5 months/crop; The fish selected for raising are large in size from 1.2 - 1.8 kg. The stocking density in the pond is 0.5 - 1 fish/m2, the cage stocking density is 5 - 7 fish/m3, depending on the care conditions.

Carp are raised for about 9 months until they reach over 1 kg. At this time, the breeder fattens them with broad beans to determine the crispiness of the fish meat. |
Measures to feed fish with broad beans
- How to prepare food:Before feeding the fish, farmers must soak the broad bean seeds in water for 12-24 hours (depending on the air temperature), large seeds must be cut in half. Then clean thoroughly and mix with 1-2% salt, leave for 10-15 minutes before feeding. This is a fairly common way of preparing food in carp farming techniques..
- How to feed:Carp should be trained to eat broad beans by starving them, not feeding them anything for 5 days, then start feeding them broad beans. For the next 5 days, feed the fish with a ration of 0.03% of their body weight at 4:00 pm, because this is the appropriate time for the fish to absorb food. Then gradually increase the ration to 1.5-3.0% of the fish weight in the pond.
Fish feed must be checked closely daily through the feeding screen.

Broad beans are the decisive factor in creating the crispiness and deliciousness of carp. |
Breeding techniques
During the first period, do not feed the fish anything other than broad beans. After feeding the fish beans for about 3 hours, check to see if the fish have eaten all of them, or if they have eaten too much or too little, so that you can promptly adjust the amount of food accordingly.
Broad beans tend to sink quickly, so when feeding your fish, sprinkle them a little at a time to avoid wasting food, and feed your fish according to their daily feeding needs.
The correct way to raise carp is to feed the fish twice a day at 8-10am and 4-6pm, put the food in a trough placed at the bottom of the pond or cage (the trough is made of an iron frame with a diameter of 6cm, trough area of 4-5m2, trough height of 25-30cm). The trough is surrounded by 2 layers, 1 layer of steel mesh, 1 layer of nylon mesh to prevent beans from floating out.
During the process of using the trough, it is necessary to periodically clean the trough at least twice a month to ensure better disease prevention for farmed fish.
Disease prevention
Once a month, add Tien Dac I mixed into fish feed with a dosage of 100g of medicine/500kg of fish/day, feed continuously for 3 days. Or use crushed garlic with a dosage of 3-5g/kg of feed. In addition, you can use Vitamin C, multivitamins with a dosage of 30mg/kg of feed.
Check the fish in the pond or cage. If the fish meat reaches a certain crispiness, proceed to harvest. 1 day before harvesting, let the fish fast.
