Mr. Nguyen Van Loi's tea garden. |
Returning to his hometown, Nguyen Van Loi was given 4 hectares of forest hills by his parents to start a career. At first, he almost gave up because of the "problem" of what to plant and what to raise on the barren land. After much thought, he decided to reclaim and restore the land to grow tea.
He recounted: His family was poor so they could not afford to rent machinery to dig the ground and make trenches, so he had to use a hoe to dig 1 hectare of hill land to plant tea. It was hard and tiring, but he was determined not to be discouraged.
The land does not disappoint, after 3 years, the tea garden that he planted with his own hands has begun to yield harvest. Excited by the results, he continues to expand the area. Currently, with 2 hectares of industrial tea, he has harvested 40 - 45 tons of tea buds every year, bringing in an income of over 100 million VND.

Developing livestock farming in the integrated farm model of Mr. Nguyen Van Loi. |
Realizing the advantage of hilly gardens for livestock development, in 2012, he borrowed money from the bank to buy 4 cows to raise. Initially, he thought of raising a few cows for pulling power, but then he realized that raising cows for reproduction brought high economic efficiency, so he focused on expanding the herd to 10 cows.
To make a living, Mr. Loi also raises 20 goats and 200-300 chickens and ducks every year. Taking advantage of the terrain, he also dug a 0.5 hectare pond to raise fish. Calculating the average income from the VAC integrated model after deducting expenses, Mr. Loi also earns a profit of 150-180 million VND.
From Mr. Loi's model, many union members and rural youths, after participating in union activities, have also chosen the path of developing family economy and getting rich on their homeland, like union members Nguyen Van Long and Nguyen Van Quang.
In recognition of his efforts and achievements in the movement to develop the grassroots Youth Union and develop the economy, he was recently honored to be one of two outstanding individuals of Anh Son district to be awarded the title of Outstanding Youth of 2015.
