(Baonghean) Passing the hillsides with forests showing off new green leaves, we visited the farm of member Le Van Cuong in Tan Tien hamlet, Giang Son Dong mountainous commune, Do Luong district. Cuong is one of 100 outstanding young farmers representing millions of rural youth nationwide who were honored to receive the Luong Dinh Cua Award.
Born in 1983, after graduating from high school, Cuong decided to start a business locally with the idea of building a comprehensive farm economic model to become rich.
In 2007, he got married and started building a livestock farm and afforestation with little initial capital, an inadequate barn system, no solid grasp of livestock farming techniques, and a lack of practical experience, so Cuong failed many times, and epidemics caused losses. However, Cuong was not discouraged.
With preferential interest loans from the District Youth Entrepreneurship Fund and poverty reduction and job creation funds from the Bank for Social Policies, Cuong has boldly invested in expanding the scale and completing the farm's facilities. Cuong regularly attends many training courses on agricultural science and technology transfer in the locality, visits and learns from other successful models in and outside the province to apply to his farm.
Currently, Cuong's family farm has a total area of 4 hectares, including a mixed livestock farm with a variety of livestock: 20 breeding pigs, 300 pigs, 5,000 chickens, 1,000 black chickens, 2,000 super-laying chickens, 500 pheasants, 400 partridges, 500 French geese, 600 grass geese, 10 cows, 10 pairs of porcupines, 2,000 crickets and 3 hectares of eucalyptus and cajuput forests.
Each year, Cuong's farm produces about 1,200 pigs, 22,000 chickens of various types, 3,500 ducks, 10 cows, 3 pairs of porcupines and 29,000 crickets. After deducting expenses, Cuong's farm earns a profit of 150 - 200 million VND/year, creating regular jobs for 3 local workers with an average income of 1,600,000 VND/person/month and 2 seasonal workers.
In addition to his success in developing farm economy, Cuong is also an active and enthusiastic Youth Union Secretary in Youth Union - Association work. For many consecutive years, he has been recognized by the Standing Committee of the District Youth Union as an excellent Youth Union Secretary. He was awarded a certificate of merit by the District Youth Union Secretary for his outstanding achievements in implementing the Campaign "Nghe An Youth Follow Uncle Ho's Teachings", and was awarded the title "Outstanding Achievements in the 5-year Patriotic Emulation Movement, 2006 - 2010" by the Chairman of the District People's Committee.
