Nghe An Provincial Party Secretary Thai Thanh Quy begins working visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands

On the afternoon of June 10 (local time), a delegation of Nghe An province led by comrade Thai Thanh Quy - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation visited and worked at the Vietnamese Embassy in the Kingdom of the Netherlands - opening a working trip to the Netherlands and some European countries from June 8 to June 18, 2024.

The provincial delegation included comrades: Le Duc Cuong - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Organization Committee; Major General Bui Quang Thanh - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Director of the Provincial Police; Nguyen Nhu Khoi - Member of the Provincial Party Executive Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Bui Dinh Long - Member of the Provincial Party Executive Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Directors of the departments: Planning and Investment, Finance, Transport, Agriculture and Rural Development, Foreign Affairs.

Happy to welcome the delegation of Nghe An province - the homeland of the great President Ho Chi Minh to visit and work in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam emphasized that the foreign relations between Vietnam and the Netherlands have developed increasingly well and effectively, after more than 50 years of establishing foreign relations (1973 - 2024).

At the same time, the Ambassador informed about the situation of Vietnamese people in the Kingdom of the Netherlands; introduced some strengths in economic and technical development of the host country, especially in the fields of seaports, renewable energy...

Expressing his sincere thanks to Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam and the Vietnamese Embassy in the Netherlands for their warm and thoughtful reception, as well as for their support in connecting and arranging the working program of the Nghe An delegation in the Netherlands, Provincial Party Secretary Thai Thanh Quy said that this working trip to European countries is one of the important foreign affairs activities of the province within the 2024 delegation plan approved by the Prime Minister, aiming to strengthen the cooperative relationship between Nghe An province and European partners; at the same time, promote economic diplomacy activities, attract investment to Nghe An province, including partners from the Netherlands.

In recent times, the cooperation between Nghe An province and the Netherlands has initially achieved some positive results. In the province, there is currently 1 project of a Dutch investor with a total registered investment capital of 18.3 million USD (MNS FEED Nghe An Animal Feed Factory Project).

In 2023, Nghe An's export turnover to the Netherlands market will reach 7.8 million USD; in the first quarter of 2024, it will reach 1.2 million USD, with main products including: textiles, components, auto parts, handicrafts, etc.

On the other hand, last year, Nghe An imported 1.6 million USD from the Netherlands with the main items including: Animal feed and raw materials, production materials and chemicals.

Provincial Party Secretary Thai Thanh Quy briefed the Embassy on the recent socio-economic situation of Nghe An province; at the same time, he affirmed that the province has prepared all conditions to best meet the needs of investors in researching, doing business and investing.

In particular, the Provincial Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, has been approved by the Prime Minister. Essential infrastructure is increasingly synchronous. The Southeast Economic Zone has land fund, clean premises and synchronous, modern infrastructure.

Nghe An also has abundant human resources, trained with increasingly improved skills. The province focuses on promoting administrative reform, especially accompanying and supporting investors in procedures.

The Provincial Party Secretary hopes that the Vietnamese Embassy in the Netherlands will pay attention to and support connecting and helping Nghe An province develop cooperative relationships with Dutch partners; focusing on considering and introducing suitable localities with many similar characteristics to exchange and implement friendly and economic cooperation activities.

At the same time, connect with investors and large enterprises with strengths from the Netherlands to invest in areas that Nghe An is focusing on attracting investment, with many potentials and advantages such as: high-tech agriculture, supporting industry, mechanical engineering, agricultural processing, tourism, education and training, seaports, logistics, etc.

The head of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee also hopes that the Vietnamese Embassy in the Netherlands will pay attention, help, and act as a bridge for the Dutch Government to support Nghe An province with official development assistance (ODA) in the fields of agriculture and rural areas combined with poverty reduction, such as: developing essential rural infrastructure for the poor (rural transport, domestic water supply, schools, medical stations, etc.); developing irrigation works combined with natural disaster prevention and mitigation; creating jobs combined with hunger eradication and poverty reduction, etc.

Respectfully acknowledging and congratulating the development achievements of Nghe An province, Ambassador Ngo Huong Nam suggested a number of feasible approaches suitable for Nghe An province; thereby expressing his willingness to support the province in approaching partners and investors in areas of strength.

Previously, on the morning of June 10, the provincial delegation visited Rotterdam Port - the largest general port in Europe. Rotterdam Port stretches over a distance of 40km and is considered the European Supply Chain Center (ELC); the volume of goods passing through the port in 2023 will reach over 400 million tons, with revenue accounting for about 3% of the Netherlands' GDP.

The provincial delegation also surveyed the Maeslantkering dam system in the Netherlands - a project considered one of the wonders of hydraulic engineering and also one of the largest hydraulic projects in the world.

The structure was built to protect the city of Rotterdam and the surrounding area from flooding caused by storms and high tides. The dam system consists of two large glass gates, each 22 metres high and 240 metres wide, mounted on two large steel columns. When there is a risk of flooding, the gates will close to block the seawater from reaching them.

On June 11, 2024 local time, the working delegation of Nghe An province continued to work with a number of partners in the Netherlands.
