Provincial Party Secretary Thai Thanh Quy surveys and exchanges experiences on port development and operation in Hamburg, Germany
On the morning of June 14 (local time), a delegation of Nghe An province visited Hamburg, Germany. Comrade Thai Thanh Quy - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation was the Head of the delegation. Also attending were representatives of the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany.

The working delegation included comrades: Le Duc Cuong - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Organization Committee; Major General Bui Quang Thanh - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Director of the Provincial Police; Nguyen Nhu Khoi - Member of the Provincial Party Executive Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Bui Dinh Long - Member of the Provincial Party Executive Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Directors of the departments: Planning and Investment, Finance, Transport, Agriculture and Rural Development, Foreign Affairs.
Next, working with the delegation were Dr. Martin Albers - representative of the Ministry of Economics and Innovation of Hamburg State, Federal Republic of Germany and Mr. Ian James - Vice President of Asia Pacific region of Hamburg Port Consulting Company (HPC), part of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA).

At the meeting, Mr. Ian James - Vice President of HPC Asia Pacific informed the delegation about the activities of HHLA Group. This is a multinational group in the top European group in the field of seaports, currently managing seaports in Hamburg (Germany), Tallinn (Estonia), Trieste (Italy) and Odessa (Ukraine).
HHLA's strength is that it has established a multimodal seaport operation model, ensuring maximum cost optimization for customers. Accordingly, HPC Company has consulted on more than 1,750 projects in 135 countries around the world in countries such as: Australia, Chile, Argentina, Malaysia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and participated in consulting for Cat Lai port (Vietnam).
At the same time, the company is also a provider of digital transformation application solutions to connect port management agencies, customers with the government, tax authorities, warehouses, etc. to ensure smoothness and create the most favorable conditions for logistics activities.

At the meeting, Nghe An Provincial Party Secretary Thai Thanh Quy and members of the delegation exchanged and learned more about the experiences of Hamburg State and HHLA Group in general, and HPC Company in particular in developing the marine economy, establishing a master plan for port project development; as well as attracting investment in projects around the port.
Dr. Martin Albers - representative of the Ministry of Economics and Innovation of Hamburg state and Mr. Ian James - Vice President of Asia Pacific region of HPC Company shared and exchanged experiences from the perspective of government management, as well as port operations and port development consulting of enterprises.

At the meeting, Nghe An Provincial Party Secretary Thai Thanh Quy said: With 82km of coastline and located on the North-South axis of Vietnam and on the East-West economic corridor, a potential gateway to the sea of Laos and the Northeast region of Thailand, the province has long established a seaport system and currently has 20 wharves with a length of about 3.5km.
“We are carrying out the process of building a deep-water seaport, expected to start construction this year,” said the Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee, expressing his gratitude for the useful information and experience in developing seaports and the marine economy shared by the Ministry of Economics and Innovation of Hamburg State and the leaders of the HHLA Group at the meeting; and hoped that in the future, Nghe An province and investors in deep-water seaports in Nghe An will connect with HPC.


Next, Provincial Party Secretary Thai Thanh Quy and the delegation directly visited and listened to the introduction of the operating procedures of Hamburg port, in which HHLA Group owns 31% of shares and the Hamburg state government owns 69% of shares.
Located on the Elbe River, 110km from its estuary into the North Sea, the port of Hamburg has a strategic location and a long history, established in 1189, and is known as Germany's "gateway to the world".

Today the Port of Hamburg is the largest port in Germany, the second busiest in Europe (after the Port of Rotterdam, Netherlands) in terms of container throughput, and the 11th largest worldwide.
The Port of Hamburg covers an area of 73.99 km², of which 43.31 km² (34.12 km²) is land. In addition to the cargo transportation that takes place in the Port of Hamburg, the port is also a place for industrial processing, storage and processing of mainly imported goods.

Here, HHLA Group has optimized operating processes, especially applying technology to automate the loading and unloading of goods at the port in functional areas.
