We met Lau Y La again in Nam Khien village (Nam Can commune - Ky Son) when she had just finished school. Y La is currently a 10th grade student at Nghe An province's Ethnic Minority Boarding School.

With a lovely and agile face, Lau Y La is always highly appreciated by teachers and classmates for her good academic performance and sociable life. However, exactly 1 year ago, if she had not been brave and quick-witted, she would probably be the wife of a Mong man.

Recalling this story, Lau Y La is still in shock. She recounted that, also at the time of the Lunar New Year last year, Y La was studying in grade 9 at Nam Can Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities (Ky Son) and was the most outstanding student of the school, named in the team competing in the provincial excellent student competition of Ky Son district. In this border commune, she was the first person to have that honor.

That evening, my uncle, Mr. Lau Ba Re, who lived in Lien Son village, held a ceremony and invited me to attend. I was worried because I had to walk a long way and I needed to get home early to study when two young men from Na Cang village (Na Ngoi commune) spoke up: "Get in my car, I'll take you home that way anyway."

Hearing that, Y La happily got into the car of two young men she had just met and asked them to take her away. However, after taking her past Uncle Lau Ba Re's house, they still refused to stop the car despite her repeated pleas. Knowing that she was being taken to be his wife, Y La fell into a state of panic.

The car drove a few hundred meters, reaching the Nam Can waterfall area, because the road was difficult, the two young men slowed down, I quickly jumped off the car and fell onto the road. Despite my face and knees bleeding, in the middle of the night I still shouted for help. "Luckily, at that time, a border guard passed by, heard me cry for help and helped me" - Y La recounted.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Phuong - Lau Y La's homeroom teacher also confirmed: "After that incident, student Lau Y La had to take a few days off school to take care of the wounds on his face and legs, and to stabilize his spirit. We also often came to encourage and ask about him. The school has repeatedly used him as an example to educate students not to get married early."

After stabilizing her spirit, Lau Y La continued to go to class and she became the first excellent student at the provincial level in this mountainous commune, and also passed the entrance exam to the provincial Ethnic Boarding School with high scores. “Through this, I also want to tell Mong students that school age is the most beautiful age, don’t drop out of school to get married early.”
