Turn March 8 into a 'No Women's Day'
The international feminist organization called on women to turn March 8, 2017 into a “day without women” around the world.
The event “A Day Without A Woman” will take place simultaneously with International Women's Day on March 8.
This is considered an event demonstrating the power of women, following the Women's Marches, a political march that took place in many cities around the world from January 21, 2017.
The “A Day Without A Woman” event was planned since October last year. It was inspired by the recent protests by thousands of women in Argentina against gender violence and the success of Polish women in opposing a proposed abortion ban.
Feminists in Poland have joined forces with feminists in South Korea, Russia, Argentina, Ireland, Israel and Italy to organize an event on March 8 called “International Women's Strike.”
In February, the Women's March organizers planned to hold a "Day Without A Woman" event but had not yet chosen a specific date. The two organizers then decided to combine the two events into one.

The Women's Marches show women around the world coming together. |
The two organizers jointly called for justice for women, labor rights and an end to gender-based violence.
They called on women to stop working on March 8. The act of “striking” is very simple, the organizers explained: “If possible, stop working on March 8, whether it is paid or unpaid work.
Women make up nearly half of the US workforce, so their absence will be felt. But they also do a lot of unpaid work, cooking, cleaning, and childcare.”
“The strike is very conscious of using different actions to talk about women's labor, because both society and policy makers have not taken women's labor seriously,” the organizer shared.

The slogan of “No Women” Day is to abstain from work (both paid and unpaid), refrain from shopping, and wear red to show solidarity. |
“To strike as a female worker, we must not only strike at the workplace, but also understand the identity of women's roles in the family and in society, which we women are shouldering,” the organizer added.
Organizers also understand that many women cannot strike because they have few protections in the workplace. For example, a single mother or a health care professional cannot abandon her patients.
If you can't strike, you can wear red to show solidarity with the campaign.
Organizers are also calling on women to avoid shopping on strike day unless it is absolutely necessary. They are also calling on men to support women in their strike day by learning to do housework and wearing red.
