The collection of documents is intended to fully reflect the Association's activities throughout history.

On May 17, 1950, not long after the Soviet Union, China and other fraternal socialist countries recognized the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Association was established at the initiative of President Ho Chi Minh and the direction of the Central Party Standing Committee.

The first President of the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Association was the late President Ton Duc Thang (1888-1980). Continuing the noble career of President Ton Duc Thang, the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Association has organized many extensive and diverse activities, contributing significantly to consolidating and developing the brotherly friendship and solidarity in fighting between the people of the two countries.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union (1991), the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association was established, continuing the tradition and tasks of the Vietnam-Soviet Union Friendship Association in the new situation. With the current comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation, the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association is implementing many diverse activities from the Central to the provinces, cities and bases nationwide.

To solemnly celebrate the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam-Soviet Union Friendship Association and the traditional day of the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association (May 17, 1950 - May 17, 2015), the Central Executive Committee of the Association decided to compile the "Chronicle of Events of the Vietnam-Soviet Union/Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association".

With the desire that the Chronicle of Events fully and truthfully reflects the formation, operation and development process of the Association through historical stages from 1950 to the present, the Central Committee of the Association hopes to receive the response, support and assistance of all organizations, individuals and members nationwide and abroad in providing the Editorial Board with all relevant documents available in their localities, agencies and individuals.
