(Baonghean.vn) -This morning, December 15, 2012, the Nghe An Provincial Military Command organized a meeting with generals from Nghe An and generals currently working and living in Nghe An.

Attending the meeting were 46 generals from Nghe An who are working and living nationwide and generals who are living and working in Nghe An. On the provincial leadership side, there were comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Colonel Nguyen Sy Hoi - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Commander of the Provincial Military Command; Colonel Bui Hoai Thanh - Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command, along with cadres and officers of the unit.

After the welcoming performance by the provincial military command's performance team, Colonel Nguyen Sy Hoi reported on the situation and characteristics of Nghe An province and the unit's activities in recent years.

After two wars against French colonialism and American imperialism for national independence and the war to protect the Fatherland, Nghe An mobilized 161,000 children to join the army to save the country; 21,500 people participated in the frontline civilian laborers and 11,500 people participated in the Youth Volunteer Force. Up to now, Nghe An has 46,673 martyrs; more than 50,000 war invalids and people enjoying policies like war invalids; 889 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers. From 1994 to present, officers and soldiers of the Quy Tap Group - Provincial Military Command have searched, collected, and collected 11,979 remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Laos and returned to the country and organized a handover ceremony for 832 martyrs' remains with names and hometowns to the families of the martyrs in 31 northern provinces and cities. (Currently, Nghe An still has 18,762/548,000 martyrs nationwide whose remains have not been found). The number of victims infected with Agent Orange is nearly 60,000 people, of which nearly 20,000 cases have received benefits, and 40,000 cases are still being considered and resolved.

With its important contributions throughout the process of building, fighting and growing, on November 6, 1978, Nghe An Armed Forces were honored by the Party and State with the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces. There were 157 collective units of local troops, militia and 69 officers and soldiers who were awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the State. In November 2001, the Quy Tap Group was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces in the period of renovation by the State. There were hundreds of thousands of Orders and Medals of all kinds awarded to officers and soldiers at all levels. In particular, in this land, many comrades working in the Nghe An Military Region have become generals in the Vietnam People's Army, such as: General Chu Huy Man, Senior Lieutenant General Tran Van Quang, Major General Bui Duc Tung, Lieutenant General Nguyen Don, Lieutenant General Pham Hong Minh, Major General Cao Xuan Khuong, Major General Nguyen Dinh Minh, Major General Vo Van Viet... and many other high-ranking officers.
