Breeding cows to help poor households
(Baonghean) - In order to share the difficulties with the people in the border areas and at the same time create opportunities for the people here to escape poverty, with the funds contributed by officers and soldiers, up to now, the Provincial Border Guard has presented 21 breeding cows to 21 households.
The family of Pit Pho Tam (32 years old) is a poor family in Huoi Cang 1 village, Bac Ly commune, Ky Son because they have many children and do not know how to do any other job besides slash-and-burn farming. After being evaluated, his family was one of 7 poor households in Bac Ly commune to receive a breeding cow from the Border Guard in 2014 worth 15 million VND from contributions and support from border guards. After the donation, officers and soldiers of My Ly Border Guard Station (a unit responsible for protecting and managing 46 km of border line in the two communes of My Ly and Bac Ly of the remote Ky Son district) "rolled up their sleeves" to help Tam's family as well as other families build barns, and assigned them to instruct the family on how to grow grass to raise cows. Up to now, Tam's family's cow, along with the cows of 2 other families, have produced another litter of calves.
