"We are waiving the temporary visa revocation requirement. Individuals whose visas have not been revoked can now travel if their visas are valid," the announcement said.

The statement came after a federal judge in Seattle ruled to halt enforcement of President Trump's controversial immigration order.

President Trump signed an executive order on January 27 temporarily banning citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries, including Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Libya and Yemen. The order also temporarily suspends the US refugee program. Within a week of the order being issued, the US revoked about 60,000 visas, the US State Department said.

The order has been met with fierce opposition. Lawsuits have been filed in Washington, Virginia, Massachusetts, Hawaii, New York, Michigan and California against the order. World leaders have also criticized the order, which Trump has justified as a measure to reduce the risk of terrorist attacks.
