Appointing Deputy Minister Pham Quang Vinh as Ambassador to the US

President Truong Tan Sang has appointed Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Vinh as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the United States.

Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Vinh is on the list of 22 Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam abroad and 7 Consuls General whose appointment decisions were handed over by President Truong Tan Sang on July 16.

The current Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States Nguyen Quoc Cuong will end his term in the near future.

Deputy Minister Pham Quang Vinh is a veteran diplomat with nearly 34 years of experience in the sector. He belongs to the first generation after the country's liberation to receive formal diplomatic training (BA in International Relations, University of Foreign Affairs from September 1975 to June 1980).

He started his career in multilateral diplomacy at the Department of International Organizations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has been involved in multilateral diplomacy for many years.

Before becoming a veteran diplomat specializing in ASEAN, he spent years working in the Vietnamese delegation to the United Nations in New York.

Particularly at the Vietnamese delegation to the United Nations, he had two working terms. During the term from 1996 to 1999, he held the position of Minister Counselor, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Vietnamese Delegation to the United Nations.

After that, the diplomat worked as Counselor, Embassy of Vietnam in Thailand.

In late 2011, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Before that, he was Assistant Minister, Head of ASEAN SOM VN.

Although he has worked in multilateral diplomacy in many areas, ASEAN is his diplomatic "career".

Up to now, Deputy Minister Pham Quang Vinh has been the Head of ASEAN SOM Vietnam for 7 years, the longest consecutive time among ASEAN SOM Heads of other countries at present, as well as the longest time in Vietnam to date.

Deputy Minister Pham Quang Vinh is always the one who is 'watched' by the international, ASEAN and domestic press, especially in negotiations and conferences on ASEAN in the region, especially topics related to the East Sea in ASEAN, as well as ASEAN relations with major partners such as China, Japan, the United States, Russia... The reason is that he does not 'avoid' and always finds ways to 'solve' all difficult questions from the international press.
