(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An province has decided to restore Diec Pagoda to preserve and promote its historical values, meeting the spiritual needs of the people. The total value of the pagoda's construction is nearly 134 billion VND, from contributions from individuals and organizations.

At the ceremony, the Organizing Committee reviewed the historical value of Diec Pagoda, according to which: Tung Lam Co Tu - commonly known as Diec Pagoda was built at the end of the Tran Dynasty and was renovated twice in 1914 and 1930. During the Can Vuong period, the Pagoda was a meeting place for scholars looking for a way to save the country; In the early years of the 20th century, the Pagoda was a place of contact for patriot Phan Boi Chau and many other patriots; this was where a large rally of the people took place demanding that the French colonialists clear the sentence of Phan Boi Chau as well as mourning Phan Chu Trinh... At Diec Pagoda, in 1926, people discovered the original copy of Van Chieu hon by the great poet Nguyen Du.

Speaking at the ceremony, Most Venerable Thich Thien Nhon - Chairman of the Central Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha congratulated Most Venerable Thich Tho Lac, and affirmed the companionship of Buddhism with the nation and socialism; Comrade Le Ngoc Hoa - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee expressed his wish that organizations and individuals would support financial and material resources for the early completion of this spiritual project.
