A search for martyrs' remains in Quang Tri was guided by a psychic. |
PV: How is the Ministry of National Defense conducting the search for martyrs' remains, General?
Senior Lieutenant General Le Huu Duc: The Ministry of National Defense has established a Steering Committee and arranged 20 specialized teams consisting of professional officers to search for and collect martyrs' remains in the country and neighboring countries of Laos and Cambodia.
We base on the records of the martyrs that are still kept; base on the grave map, because when the martyrs sacrificed, the unit marked it. During the fighting, each soldier had a bottle (called penicillin bottle) with the date of birth, hometown, when to inform someone, the fighting unit... then put it in his pocket, shirt. When the soldiers sacrificed and were buried, they would be found later when dug up.
In addition, we were provided with information by the people. In remote areas, it was the village elders and village chiefs; as well as the comrades of the martyrs. Sometimes the enemy also provided us with information about the remains of the martyrs.
During the gathering process, it was very difficult, having to climb mountains, wade through streams, and go through forests... because of that, 14 officers and soldiers sacrificed their lives and more than 100 comrades were injured. I affirm that the Ministry of National Defense never uses psychics.
PV: There are still many families who wish to search for the remains of martyrs and they have to rely on forces outside the military, psychics. What advice does the General have for these families?
Senior Lieutenant General Le Huu Duc: Recently, the Prime Minister approved the Project to search for and collect martyrs' remains until 2020 and the following years, assigning the Ministry of National Defense to preside over it and the Ministry will continue to direct its implementation.
The Department will never use psychics to participate. The Department of Defense has full capacity and means to do this and will continue to do so.
Up to now, the Ministry of National Defense has never advised people to search for the remains of martyrs and the Ministry has been assigned by the Party, State and Government to do this job. We will continue to do so with great responsibility, to quickly bring our comrades back to their relatives and families.
For families with information about martyrs' remains, I recommend that they rely on the collection teams of the army, government, and military commands of provinces and districts to search for martyrs' remains. Because the search teams have archives and grave maps.
PV: What does the Ministry of Defense think about the results given by psychics?
Senior Lieutenant General Le Huu Duc: Through press reports, the authorities need to intervene and deal with those who are unscrupulous and identify remains incorrectly.
PV: In case we find martyrs' remains, should we conduct DNA testing, General?
Senior Lieutenant General Le Huu Duc: The Government has assigned 3 centers to handle this issue, including the Military Forensic Center. Whether or not to conduct an appraisal is up to the families.
The tombstones searched by the military forces were basically accurate./.
PV: Thank you, General!./.
