Earlier, Japan deployed surface-to-air missile systems and put its armed forces on combat alert.

In addition, Tokyo also deployed Aegis-class warships to neighboring waters.

Previously, on December 6, the US Navy also dispatched two Aegis-class warships, Benfold and Fitzgerald, to coordinate with Japanese destroyers to deal with North Korea's missile launch plan.

Television footage showed the Aegis-class destroyer equipped with the SM-3 interceptor missile system leaving its base in Sasebo, about 900km west of the capital Tokyo./.
