The above amount is funded by the World Bank (WB) and the project implementation period is extended until December 31, 2013.

The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Health and the People's Committees of provinces and cities participating in the project to be responsible for fully arranging counterpart funds to ensure project implementation according to plan.

According to information from the Department of HIV/AIDS Prevention (Ministry of Health), over the past 6 years, the HIV/AIDS Prevention Project has been implemented in 32 out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide.

Project activities include: communication to change behavior for people in groups with high risk of HIV infection; intervention to reduce the harm of HIV/AIDS; substitution treatment of addictive drugs with Methadone, building an integrated model for HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention...

In Vietnam, HIV has tended to decrease in recent years. However, the epidemic is still in a concentrated phase, with a high number of infected people among homosexuals, prostitutes, drug addicts, and vulnerable groups.

Currently, HIV/AIDS transmission through sexual contact is higher than transmission through blood. In particular, the number of people infected with HIV/AIDS is still high and difficult to control, especially in the northern mountainous provinces.

As of the end of November 2012, the total number of people infected with HIV nationwide was 261,400, of which 107,000 cases had progressed to AIDS and 54,000 people died from AIDS./.
