According to RIA Novosti on May 22, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that the Pokrovsky (also known as Krasnoarmeisky) direction in Donetsk is the most tense on the entire front line. The situation there requires the Ukrainian army to mobilize troops.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also announced fierce battles in the direction of Novoaleksandrovka, Kalinovoe, Progess and Evgenievka.

In an exclusive interview with Reuters on May 21, on the occasion of his fifth year as president, Mr. Zelensky admitted that the Ukrainian army was going through "one of the most difficult times" since the beginning of the war. In recent weeks, the Russian army has advanced into the northeastern part of the internationally recognized Ukrainian territory, focusing on the Kharkiv region. Along with that, Russia also gained control of many territories in the Donbass region in the east.

The President of Ukraine said: "A wave of very fierce fighting is taking place in Donbass, especially: Kurakhove, Pokrovsky, Chasov Yar".

Earlier, the Economist (UK) quoted a Ukrainian government official as saying that President Zelensky was said to have expressed anger at his subordinate generals, who he believed were not telling him the truth about the situation on the front line in Kharkov.

The Economist says that Ukrainian soldiers fighting in Kharkiv have become uneasy with the rapid Russian advance over the past two weeks. Denis Yaroslavsky, a local commander, complained that the fortifications that were supposed to stop the Russian advance did not actually exist. Ukraine has repeatedly claimed to have built a solid defense line in Kharkiv, but in reality Russia has crossed the border quite easily.

President Zelensky was unhappy because he felt he did not understand the big picture of the frontline, the source said.

Ukraine has not commented on the information mentioned by the Economist./.
