(Baonghean.vn) – Traditional costumes of Mong women in the Western region of Nghe An are often decorated with silver. That is what makes these costumes have "huge" prices that few people expect in this remote area. Mrs. Xong Y Pa (Nam Can village - Nam Can commune - Ky Son) is currently one of the very few Mong people who still own a traditional costume that costs up to more than 30 million VND.

The costume of Mrs. Xong Y Pa (Nam Can village - Nam Can commune - Ky Son) costs over 30 million VND. Just counting her traditional necklace alone, it took 3 silver bars to make.

Costumes are a unique feature of Mong ethnic culture. During holidays, Mong women always wear colorful clothes and coins that jingle very happily. Few people know that these costumes are the result of a great effort by Mong women to embroider day and night and also cost a lot of money.

Mrs. Xong Y Pa (Nam Can village - Nam Can commune - Ky Son) is the person who "bought" the most expensive Mong costume. She completed this costume more than 10 years ago and only wears it on important holidays and Tet, otherwise she always keeps it carefully in a chest and wardrobe.

The fabric for the dress was purchased by her in Laos and embroidered by her. According to her rough estimate, to complete this dress, especially the silver ornaments attached to the hood, she had to spend more than 30 million. Her silver necklace alone cost nearly 3 silver bars. The price of each silver bar up to this point was nearly ten million VND.

Xung quanh chiếc thắt lưng cũng được đính toàn bạc trắng có giá trị.
Around the belt is also studded with valuable white silver.

Ms. Y Pa said: “Mong women must wear traditional costumes during festivals and Tet. This is the beauty of Mong women and cannot be abandoned, so those who have skillful hands must make and wear it themselves. This dress not only shows the beauty of women but also shows the skillful hands of Mong people.”

At first glance, the outfit seems simple but has a very "huge" price that few Mong people can afford.

The costumes of the Mong people in Nghe An, from women to men, are elaborate in patterns and the arrangement of motifs. It has a different look compared to the costumes of the Mong people in other places. The silver coins attached to the hats, skirts, and shirts of the women also show their wealth.

Mrs. Xong Y Pa said that in the past, Mong women often asked for a dowry of silver when they got married. The more silver a woman carried, the more beautiful and valuable she was.

Only on important holidays does Mrs. Xong Y Pa wear this outfit. In the photo: Mrs. Xong Y Pa (far right) in an expensive outfit to vote for National Assembly and People's Council deputies at all levels for the 2016-2021 term.

Currently, in the Mong community in Western Nghe An, there are very few people who have traditional costumes as valuable as Mrs. Xong Y Pa. Therefore, she and her children and grandchildren in the family are very proud and consider it a precious asset that needs to be cherished and preserved.
