Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development works with provincial leaders

(Baonghean.vn) - Continuing the working program in Nghe An, on the afternoon of July 21, Minister Cao Duc Phat and the working delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development had a working session with the People's Committee of Nghe An province. Working with the delegation were comrades: Ho Duc Phoc - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Earlier this morning, the Minister and the delegation visited concentrated poultry farms in Dien Trung commune (Dien Chau); visited the land consolidation model in Dien Tho commune - Dien Chau and visited the commune that has just achieved the new rural standard, Hung Dong commune - Vinh city.

On behalf of the provincial leaders, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Duong - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee reported to the Minister and the working delegation on the socio-economic development of Nghe An in the first 6 months of 2014. Accordingly, the economic growth rate of the province reached 6.37%; the agricultural, forestry and fishery production rate is estimated at 3.10%, the internal economic structure has shifted in the right direction. By June 2014, 8 communes had achieved 19/19 NTM criteria, of which 3 communes had decisions to achieve NTM standards, the average of the whole province achieved 9.3 criteria/commune.

In restructuring the agricultural sector, the province has achieved remarkable initial results. The province has planned and supplemented the planning for the development of major crops and livestock in the direction of focusing on industrial crops; developed and expanded effective models of plants and animals, implemented linkage models in production, increased the value of agricultural products; accelerated the construction progress and improved the quality of irrigation works, etc.

At the meeting, Comrade Ho Duc Phoc - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee affirmed: Nghe An is a province with great potential for economic development, in which the province always determines that agricultural economy plays a very important role in the economic structure. Currently, Nghe An has formed many specialized areas for industrial crops and fruit trees, some areas have reached an income of 500 million VND/ha/year such as 100 hectares of V2 oranges in Quy Hop. He also expressed his hope that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development would introduce potential investors to invest in building agricultural processing factories to solve product output as well as increase income for farmers.

Regarding the construction of new rural areas, Nghe An is focusing on being able to return to the enemy early, especially the province is planning to build two model new rural communes, Kim Lien and Quynh Doi. The province hopes that the Ministry will continue to pay attention to investing in the new rural construction program; at the same time, continue to give priority and support to Nghe An in building freshwater retention and saltwater prevention projects, building high value chains in agricultural production, creating conditions for the province to upgrade and repair the dam system and build Cua Lo fishing port, which is both a fishing port and a shelter for boats during the rainy and stormy season.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development acknowledged and appreciated the efforts that Nghe An has achieved in the past time, hoping that the province will continue to promote the achieved results. At the same time, he noted that Nghe An needs to accelerate the growth rate of agriculture to increase farmers' income. In restructuring agriculture, it is necessary to pay attention to the issues of quality and value in production, in which it is necessary to pay attention to the structure of seasons, the structure of varieties and the application of scientific and technological advances in production. Nghe An needs to choose crops and livestock that are both strengths of the region, suitable for regional conditions, and have high value and stable consumption markets to put into production. Regarding the recommendations and proposals of the provincial leaders, Comrade Cao Duc Phat promised to create all conditions for Nghe An to participate in rural infrastructure projects. Regarding the programs to support new rural construction, he acknowledged and will submit them to the Central Steering Committee for New Rural Construction.
