Education Minister: Students' anxiety when registering is necessary
The recent national high school exam was highly appreciated for its streamlined organization, reducing pressure on students and parents. However, there are still many concerns from the public regarding the organization of the exam.
Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan answered these questions in the program "People ask, Minister answers" on VTV1, the Government's electronic information portal, Vietnam News Agency and several other media agencies on August 16.

Create all conditions for candidates from remote provinces
In response to concerns about candidates from remote provinces being disadvantaged in the process of "withdrawing and submitting" their application documents, Minister Pham Vu Luan said that compared to students in the city, students from remote areas suffer many disadvantages in accessing information as well as transportation.
Therefore, the Ministry of Education and Training has implemented a series of specific measures such as directing the Education and Times newspaper and a number of other media outlets to continuously update admission information.
The second measure is to update the software so that students can change their preferences at the high schools where they study and at local Departments of Education and Training.
At the education departments as well as localities, the Ministry has also directed teachers to open the network to regularly update enrollment information and provide guidance and advice to students. Currently, the software operation is being implemented quite well and under control.
Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training has organized a year-end review with the participation of the directors of the Departments of Education and Training. The organization of the exams has good features, simpler, lighter, more economical, more serious and more reliable.
However, society is still worried about the admission process. The Ministry of Education and Training is continuing to handle and monitor the situation; encouraging teachers to continue to overcome difficulties, take on the difficulties themselves to create the most favorable conditions for students to have enough information to consider and choose for the important decision in their early life.
However, as this is the first year of innovation, there are still many shortcomings. The Ministry will wait for social assessment and then learn from experience to supplement and perfect solutions for the exam in the coming years.
Innovating admissions to ensure fairness for candidates
Regarding concerns about the admission process that worries both parents and students, Minister Pham Vu Luan said: Several decades ago, which exam group to take and which university to enter were all decided by the admissions council.
Later, during the renovation period, students were given the right to choose the exam block and the school to register for. To choose, students had to calculate whether they excelled in block A, B or C, and whether they wanted to take the exam to the University of Science and Technology, Construction or Pedagogy... That was a worrying step but it was progress.
However, the previous admission methods over the years have been assessed by public opinion as lacking information, both from the students and the schools, so many students with high scores fail while many students with low scores pass. This causes unfairness to students as well as schools when not all excellent students are recruited.
Receiving concerns from society and with the development of information technology, thoroughly grasping the spirit of Resolution 29 that all activities are directed towards the development of students' capacity, creating conditions for students to be able to decide and solve their own problems, the Education sector has announced not only exam results but also collected the results of exam groups, updated the status of student records registered to schools, so that students regularly know which top and level they are at.
In the past, students were worried but had no way out, relying on the initial registration which was mostly luck. Now, students are worried but can calculate and consider to be able to choose the right one for the general situation and within their ability. That is a necessary worry so that students can have results worthy of their efforts and achievements, in accordance with their general ability.
On this occasion, Minister Pham Vu Luan sent his regards and encouragement to teachers and students in localities that have just been affected by natural disasters; wishing teachers, students nationwide and educational institutions to continue to have even greater achievements.
The Minister also, on behalf of the education sector, expressed deep gratitude to the people of the whole country, Party committees and authorities at all levels for supporting the education sector in implementing the high school exam as well as completing the 2014-2015 school year plan.
