Vietnamese and Russian Foreign Ministers hold phone talks on Ukraine situation

On the evening of March 15 (Hanoi time), Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son had a phone call withMinister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov.

In an atmosphere of friendship and mutual trust, the two Foreign Ministers had a sincere, frank and constructive exchange on the conflict situation in Ukraine.

Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed Vietnam's consistent stance that international disputes and disagreements need to be resolved by peaceful means, in compliance with the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, especially the principle of respecting the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations.

The Minister suggested that all parties exercise restraint, reduce tensions and continue efforts in dialogue to find long-term solutions in accordance with international law and taking into account the legitimate interests of all parties; he said Vietnam is ready to contribute to this process together with the international community.

Minister Bui Thanh Son asked Russia to continue organizing humanitarian corridors and take measures to ensure the safety of civilians, including Vietnamese people in Ukraine, evacuated from war zones.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov highly appreciated Vietnam's role and contributions to peace, stability, and development cooperation in the region and the world; shared recent developments on the conflict situation in Ukraine; and affirmed that he will do his best to support the safe evacuation of Vietnamese citizens from war zones.

The two sides also discussed bilateral relations, in which Minister Bui Thanh Son asked the Russian side to continue to pay attention and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Russia to stabilize their lives, production and business./.
