On October 3, Deputy Minister of Construction Le Quang Hung said that he is urgently drafting a draft to send to the Ministry's leaders for consideration and submit to the Prime Minister for promulgation of a directive on organizing a general inspection, review, inspection and development of a roadmap for the use of old houses that have expired in urban areas across the country.

The inspection will pay special attention to buildings that are 80 years old or older, including old apartment buildings. After the inspection, the roadmap for the use or demolition of these buildings will be clearly determined. It is expected that this October, the technical process will be completed to submit to the Government for issuance of a directive.

Then, around December or January 2016, the inspection will begin. After 6 months, the results will be summarized to review and classify which old constructions need quality inspection. Based on the inspection results, it will be decided which constructions should continue to exist and must be reinforced to ensure safety or which constructions that are too degraded and cannot be maintained will be demolished.
