Compensation of over 8 billion VND in agricultural insurance

(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of May 9, 2014, the Provincial People's Committee held a Conference to summarize 3 years of piloting agricultural insurance according to Decision 315/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister. Comrade Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Steering Committee for piloting agricultural insurance; Ho Ngoc Sy - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development co-chaired the conference.

After 3 years of implementing the agricultural insurance pilot program, by December 31, 2013, Nghe An had nearly 152,960 households participating, with a total insurance amount of nearly 2 trillion VND, insurance premiums of more than 87 billion VND, of which the State supported nearly 76 billion VND and farmers contributed 2.5 billion VND. The compensation for damages in the province was timely and in accordance with regulations, contributing to encouraging farmers to reorganize production and stabilize their lives. The total compensation amount in the past 3 years was up to 8 billion 394 million VND, of which nearly 6 billion VND was for rice and 2.4 billion VND for livestock.

Concluding the Conference, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged the positive impacts of the agricultural insurance pilot program in Nghe An province. Through the program, awareness of the necessity of agricultural insurance in agricultural production and rural development has been raised for all levels, sectors and households. In 2014, Bao Viet Nghe An Company needs to continue to implement insurance contracts strictly and in accordance with regulations on the basis of reviewing contracts that are still in effect after December 31, 2013; direct the monitoring of natural disasters and epidemics, announce or confirm natural disasters and epidemics to serve as a basis for settling insurance compensation; direct timely and accurate insurance compensation in accordance with regulations. In particular, strengthen the inspection and supervision of the implementation of agricultural insurance, especially in the work of identifying and assessing losses, and preventing insurance fraud.

On this occasion, 2 collectives and 1 individual received certificates of merit from the Prime Minister; 01 collective and 3 individuals were commended by the Ministry of Finance; 6 collectives and 7 individuals were awarded certificates of merit by the Provincial People's Committee for their outstanding achievements in implementing the pilot agricultural insurance in Nghe An province in the past 3 years./.
