I have witnessed the quiet work of a doctor, after the hours he gets to go home to rest, sit down for a cup of tea, shake hands with a friend he met by chance on the stairs, go to the bookstore to buy his daughter a comic book for her birthday... After all those fleeting moments, he returns to work, bustling as if being late by even a minute would lead to serious consequences, attentive as if the person lying on the hospital bed that he personally directed the surgery was a family member. And his voice, the voice that makes people feel like they are being energized, comforted with hope, has made that cramped, white room so much warmer. I saw trust and affection shine in the tired eyes of the patients.

There are such professions, and there are such people, how precious it is when they not only help people with their professional responsibility but also with their wholehearted love. “Treating and saving people” or “A good doctor must be like a mother” are not empty slogans, they are their thoughts, the sacred things that dedicated doctors always consider as a compass on their arduous path. A path where every day is a battle...
