Dozens of elephants have been brutally killed on the island of Sumatra over the years, according to wildlife officials.

The expansion of palm oil plantations affects the elephants' habitat and brings them into more contact with humans.

Previously, in February, Indonesian authorities found the bodies of seven rare Sumatran elephants in an area outside Tesso Nilo National Park (Riau province, in the west of the country) and suspected they were poisoned./.
