Victor Ng, head of the design team for Hillary Clinton's US presidential campaign, posted a photo that went viral on Twitter yesterday, according to Cnet. The author of the photo is Barbara Kinney, a photographer for Clinton's campaign.
As Mrs. Clinton stood on the podium and waved, no one in the crowd looked directly at her. People turned their backs, raised their phones and tried to take “just a little bit of themselves” with the Democratic presidential candidate in the background.
Victor Ng captioned the photo, "It's 2016," a time when people increasingly prefer to be seen, rather than looked at. In addition to posting the photo, Victor Ng also posted a sarcastic letter to celebrities.
"Dear celebrity, if we want to be seen next to you, we will turn our backs on you. Don't take this as an insult, it's just that your fame is no longer enough for us. We need to attach ourselves to your fame to post pictures on Twitter, Facebook and Snapchat."
The author further writes that in this way the photographer can achieve "a small but short-lived fame" or perhaps it is the "greatest fame" the photographer can have.
Victor Ng believes that in this day and age, people live in a place not for the sake of the place, but to be "seen as having been there."
