Bui Xuan Hieu: Be as resilient as Chu Prong mountain!

The cargo door of the bus running the North-South route popped open and unfortunately, it hit the neck of Xuan Hieu - the HA.GL defender who is being planned by coach Phan Thanh Hung for a place in the Vietnam national team in the upcoming training session.

The information shocked many people, when initially Hieu was diagnosed with a severed artery (through the neck) and spinal injury (neck area), and had to be immediately transferred from HA.GL Hospital (Pleiku) to Quy Nhon General Hospital (Binh Dinh) on the same day.

Witnesses said that while Hieu was standing on the phone next to Highway 14, in front of the gate of HA.GL Football Academy, the terrible accident happened in an unexpected way.

Bui Xuan Hieu unexpectedly had an unfortunate accident and missed the opportunity to join the Vietnam national team.

“These days, Hieu has been going down to the Academy to practice with the U21 and U17 teams, and then practicing on his own, to prepare for the upcoming training camp for the national team. That is a very commendable attitude of a young professional player. The accident was very unfortunate and no one expected it. We were shocked when we heard the news, but in misfortune there is still luck, as at least Hieu still kept his life,” said HA.GL Director Huynh Mau.

According to other witnesses, at around 8:30 this morning, Hieu went out to buy an envelope to pay his respects to an acquaintance (his girlfriend's grandmother) who had just passed away. While still engrossed in the phone, the former U23 National Team defender did not have time to react, until he passed out and was taken to the hospital by nearby residents. The car that caused the accident was detained by the police for investigation.

Yesterday, the head coach of the Vietnam national team, Mr. Phan Thanh Hung, was also given a preliminary report on the incident and Mr. Hung also expressed his regret. “I felt shocked and then worried. I am worried not because of my job, but because Hieu, a talented and progressive young player, is at risk of having to take a long break from playing. I still leave that position (additional call-up position for the national team) for Hieu and hope that he will return soon,” Mr. Hung shared.

Going with Xuan Hieu and his family to Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh, was also HA.GL first team assistant Trinh Duy Quang. Yesterday, we tried to contact both Xuan Hieu's cell phone and the assistant, but either there was no response or the phone was out of coverage. Right now, Xuan Hieu is still fighting against death to regain his life and praying that this talented young defender will be as steadfast as the "big mountain" Chu Prong (Hieu's nickname) to overcome the critical condition and return to the field.
