The President's visit to the two European countries opens up new prospects for cooperation between Vietnam, Hungary and Denmark.

On the morning of September 21, President Truong Tan Sang and his wife, along with a high-ranking delegation of our country, returned to Hanoi, successfully concluding their State visits to Hungary from September 15-17 and the Kingdom of Denmark from September 18-20.

The visit opened up new prospects for cooperation between Vietnam and Hungary, and at the same time upgraded the Vietnam-Denmark relationship to a comprehensive partnership for the benefit of the people of the two countries and the two regions.

Hungary and Denmark are both members of the European Union. These are two countries that have traditionally had good friendship relations with Vietnam.

The State visit to Hungary and Denmark by President Truong Tan Sang and his wife and the high-ranking delegation of our country takes place in the context of Hungary actively implementing its Look East policy, in which Vietnam is considered a priority country in the Asia region.

With Denmark, the relationship is on the rise as the two countries have established a strategic partnership in the areas of climate change, energy, environment and green growth.

In particular, this visit is also the first State visit by our President to Hungary in nearly 10 years and the first visit by a Vietnamese President to the Kingdom of Denmark.

That affirms that Vietnam attaches importance to the friendship and cooperation with traditional friendly countries, and at the same time wishes to further tighten bilateral relations and promote cooperation in many fields.

On the basis of that good friendship, the leaders of the two countries gave the President and his wife a very respectful and thoughtful welcome with the highest ceremonies reserved for Heads of State.

And not only that, in Denmark, Queen Margrethe II, the Prince and the Crown Prince were truly moved as if they were meeting relatives again to reminisce about their family's memories of their youth in Vietnam.

During the meetings and talks between President Truong Tan Sang with Hungarian President Ader Janos, Danish Queen Margrethe II and Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt, one could also clearly feel the special affection that the people and leaders of the two countries have for Vietnam.

The leaders of the two countries highly appreciated Vietnam's role and position in the dynamically developing Southeast Asia region, considering Vietnam a priority partner to promote cooperation.

Hungarian President Ader Janos affirmed: “I think the presence of the President of Vietnam and his delegation clearly demonstrates the position we give to Vietnam in this policy. Over the past decades, Vietnam has not only achieved many achievements in socio-economic development but also achieved many successes in the field of diplomacy. We are talking about a country that is increasingly prestigious in the Southeast Asian region and increasingly prestigious in international organizations. We consider Vietnam an important partner in the field of cooperation with ASEAN and cooperation with third regions”.

Given the importance of this cooperation, Vietnam and Hungary issued a Joint Statement on the visit, setting out important political principles as the basis for continuing to strengthen the traditional friendly cooperation between the two countries in the new situation.

In particular, in Denmark, the two countries signed a Joint Statement officially establishing a Comprehensive Partnership. This is an important framework to guide the bilateral relationship in the coming time.

Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt emphasized: “Today, the nature of the relationship between the two countries has changed from development cooperation to political and commercial cooperation. The signing of the joint statement on comprehensive partnership between the two countries is a clear demonstration of that. This joint statement also marks a new stage in the relationship between the two countries, it allows the two countries to further strengthen political and commercial cooperation, for the benefit of both countries”.

Along with progress in the political field, economic and trade relations, the focus of the President's visit to two European countries this time, have achieved extremely positive results.

Hungary wants to increase trade turnover and expand import and export goods to each other, in addition to traditional goods such as pharmaceuticals, agricultural products, etc.

On the morning of September 16 (local time), President Truong Tan Sang and his wife, along with a high-ranking delegation of our country, laid a wreath at the Heroes' Square Memorial.

The Danish Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to implementing the Market Growth Strategy for Vietnam, one of the 10 potential economies in the world that Denmark has chosen to implement this strategy, to soon bring two-way trade turnover to a level commensurate with the great potential between the two countries.

In particular, the Business Forum held in Hungary and Denmark attracted a large number of businesses to learn about investment opportunities and environment, import and export...

Notably, many Hungarian and Danish enterprises are very interested in and consider Vietnam an attractive investment and business destination.

Also here, Vietnamese enterprises signed many cooperation agreements with Danish partners in the fields of construction materials, green technology application, finance and banking, etc.

It can be seen that the demand for economic and trade cooperation between the two sides is very large. Speaking at these forums, President Truong Tan Sang affirmed that Vietnam always welcomes and creates all conditions for businesses of the two countries to invest in Vietnam.

In addition to promoting bilateral cooperation, multilateral cooperation also received special attention. President Truong Tan Sang discussed with the leaders of the two countries about coordination and mutual support at regional and international forums.

The Hungarian President and the Danish Prime Minister both expressed their support for Vietnam in strengthening its comprehensive relationship with the European Union, supporting Vietnam in the process of ratifying the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement and negotiating the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement and soon recognizing Vietnam's market economy status; expressed their support for Vietnam's stance on the East Sea issue...

The visit can be considered to be of great significance and success, opening a new era for Vietnam's relations with Hungary and the Kingdom of Denmark.

Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said: “President Truong Tan Sang’s trip implements the foreign policy of the 11th Party Congress, which is to strengthen traditional friends, including Hungary and Denmark. In particular, there is political trust and political relations, which are the foundation for increasing relations in other fields, especially at the present stage when we are moving towards building Vietnam into an industrialized country by 2020. The strengths of Hungary and Denmark are areas in which we can cooperate to serve the purpose of industrialization and modernization of the country.”

Although the visit of President Truong Tan Sang and his wife and the high-ranking delegation of our country only lasted 6 days, with the results achieved, along with political determination and efforts to strengthen the development of relations, we can firmly believe that the traditional relations with Hungary and the Comprehensive Partnership with Denmark will develop even more strongly, thereby contributing to strengthening ASEAN-EU relations, meeting the aspirations and bringing practical benefits to the people of Vietnam and the two countries, for peace, cooperation and development in the two regions and in the world./.
