Human trafficking, 3 defendants sentenced to 18 years in prison

(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of July 4, the People's Court of Nghe An province brought the case of Phang Thi Chieng (born in 1990, residing in Xieng My commune, Tuong Duong district) and her accomplices to trial for human trafficking.

Through public questioning in court, the defendants' criminal acts were clarified: on December 18, 2013, Luong Thi My (born in 1973) and Vang Thi Bon (born in 1978), both residing in Yen Tinh commune, Tuong Duong district, came to Chieng's house to visit. Here, Chieng asked My and Bon to find people to sell to China. If they found them, Chieng would pay each case 5 million VND. Both My and Bon agreed.

On December 20, 2013, all three went to the house of Lo Thi Ngh, a friend of My, residing in Cam Muon commune, Que Phong district, to find someone to sell them to China. On December 21, 2013, at Nghia's house, Chieng invited Ng, Lo Thi T and Vi Thi Th to go to China to do business or get married, and promised to pay each person from 25 million to 50 million VND depending on their beauty and age, all three agreed to go.

After discussing and agreeing to have money for the trip to China, My sold her gold necklace for 12 million and gave each victim 4 million as travel expenses. On December 22, 2013, My and Bon took the 3 victims to Vinh and handed them over to Chieng, then took a bus back home. Chieng took a bus to take Ngh, Th and T to Quang Ninh to sell them to China. When the bus reached Quan Bau ward, Vinh city, it was discovered and caught red-handed by the Border Guard in coordination with Nghe An police. When My and Bon arrived at Dien Chau district, they were chased and arrested by the authorities.

At court, the defendants confessed honestly and repented of their actions. Realizing that in this case, defendant Chieng was the one who incited the two defendants My and Bon to commit the crime, he should receive a higher sentence. After consideration, the panel sentenced defendant Phang Thi Chieng to 7 years in prison, Luong Thi My to 6 years in prison and Vang Thi Bon to 5 years in prison for the above crime.
