Hospital 115 successfully operated on a 3 kg lipoma

(Baonghean) -After nearly 2 hours of surgery, 3 kg of excess flesh from patient Nguyen Thi Lan (Hong Van district, Bac Lieu province) was removed by General Hospital 115.

On May 25, Doctor Vo Van Hoa, Head of the Department of Surgery, Nghe An General Hospital 115, said that the hospital had just successfully operated on a patient with a rare lipoma. The patient was Nguyen Thi Lan, 61 years old, a farmer in Ninh Dien hamlet, Ninh Quoi commune, Hong Van district, Bac Lieu province.

This tumor is located in the patient's left thigh, compressing the muscles, arteries, veins and nerves, causing the patient to feel tense and have difficulty walking. Through medical history investigation, doctors recorded that this tumor had appeared on Ms. Lan's body for 7 years. Initially, it was very small, but it gradually grew larger over time. In particular, in the past 2 years, the tumor has grown very quickly, causing inconvenience in her daily life and poor health.

She also went to Cho Ray Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City) for examination and was advised to have surgery to remove it, but due to financial constraints, she had to accept it. In mid-May, during a trip to her husband's hometown in Thanh Hoa, she decided to have surgery at Nghe An General Hospital 115, where she had previously successfully performed lipomas.

The surgeon who performed the surgery was Dr. Bui Hong Quang and the assistant was Dr. Dinh Van Duong. Dr. Quang said: “Mrs. Lan’s “giant” thigh is actually a large lipoma. In reality, there are quite a few people with lipomas, but for aesthetic reasons, when the tumor is only the size of a fist or an orange, the patient goes to the hospital to have the tumor surgically removed or liposuctioned. The case of letting the tumor grow to 3 kg and causing many effects like Ms. Lan’s is an exceptional case.”
