The war against the American invaders and the forces that divided our country lasted for more than 20 years in the 20th century, with great sacrifices of blood and bones, and ended in glorious victory with the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, completely liberating the South and unifying the country. It was the pinnacle of victories among pinnacles, a milestone among milestones, a monument of victory among monuments of victory. It was a triumph after long years of a divided country; it was a happy ending to years of arduous fighting and sacrifice, to boundless patriotism, to the desire for peace, and to the will to unify the country of every Vietnamese person.
The history of the Vietnamese people has had periods of foreign invasion and occupation; the blood, sweat, and tears of the Vietnamese people permeate every line of the past. The history of the Vietnamese people has also had long years of division, continuous wars that cost blood and bones. For that reason, more than anyone else, the Vietnamese people always aspire for a peaceful country, a unified country, people in a country who love and unite, together build and protect the country, and seek prosperity, freedom, and happiness.
The victory of April 30, 1975 was the victory of the Vietnamese people; the entire Vietnamese people made the victory! During the war that lasted more than 20 years, the entire nation stood on one side, on the same front against the invading forces and the division of the country. Anyone, regardless of the circumstances, who contributed to the victory of the nation, making the war end one hour, one second earlier, will be recognized.
Somewhere, at some point, on the day of victory, there are winners and losers, winners and losers. But now is the time when 40 years have passed since the war, on the national destination, enough for us to absorb the lesson of post-war pain, to be brave and tolerant and break away from prejudice, so that brothers in the same family no longer feel inferior about winners and losers, winners and losers! Clearly, the entire Vietnamese nation has won, has reached the destination it needed to reach. That is, the war has receded into the past, the North and South are unified, the Fatherland no longer has the shadow of foreign invasion! That is a peaceful country, open space, each individual can freely develop their talents and work creatively.
Now, 40 years after the war, is it possible that someone is still clinging to the prejudices of the past? Is it possible that someone is still sleeping in the glory of victory? Is it possible that someone is still singing the old song "the country has just emerged from war" to avoid responsibility for every damage, failure, and weakness? As a Vietnamese, no one can stand outside the struggle to revive the country after the war. As a Vietnamese, no one has the right to stand by and criticize harshly. As a Vietnamese, no one is allowed to make the country poorer, more underdeveloped, inferior, or backward compared to countries with the same starting point.
Somewhere, if anyone, due to circumstances or stubbornly clinging to hatred, sees April 30 as a day of so-called "national hatred", then look at the reality of the past and present, throw away that "national hatred" and "national enmity"! Every Vietnamese person, wherever they are, whatever their past, has a common denominator, which is the Fatherland and the people; the will for independence, the desire for peace, freedom, prosperity, and happiness. The spirit of national pride and self-respect makes every Vietnamese more aware of building a common denominator, coming closer together, putting aside inferiority complexes and prejudices, and moving forward together.
This year, the 40th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country is close to the Hung Kings' death anniversary. The spirit of victory, the idea of national reconciliation and harmony is deeply imbued, urging every Vietnamese to unite, be creative, and make new victories in building peace, for a prosperous and happy Vietnam.
