On the evening of March 6, Hanoi People's Committee Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung announced that a 26-year-old woman had tested positive for nCoV, becoming the 17th case in Vietnam.

This girl is from District 3, Ho Chi Minh City, and is temporarily residing at 125 Truc Bach Street, Hanoi.

On February 15th, the girl departed from Noi Bai Airport to visit relatives living in London (England). Three days later, she traveled from London to Milan, Lombardy province, Italy, for tourism. At this time, Lombardy province had not yet recorded a Covid-19 outbreak.

On February 20th, she returned to London. Five days later, she traveled from London to Paris (France) for a one-day trip and met her sister there. On February 29th, she developed a cough but did not seek medical attention. On March 1st, she experienced additional body aches and fatigue, with no clear fever. That same day, she boarded Vietnam Airlines flight VN0054, arriving at Noi Bai Airport at 4:30 AM on March 2nd. At that time, the patient did not have a fever.

After completing immigration procedures, the patient was driven home in a private family car to their residence on Truc Bach Street, Truc Bach Ward, Ba Dinh District.

On March 2nd, the patient experienced mild fever and a persistent cough. On March 5th, the patient visited Hong Ngoc General Hospital for examination and was subsequently transferred to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Kim Chung facility. The test results were positive for nCoV. The patient is currently isolated and under health monitoring.

The driver and five domestic helpers of the patient's family are also being quarantined at the Tropical Diseases Hospital. Seventeen doctors and nurses from Hong Ngoc Hospital who had contact with the patient are currently in quarantine at Hong Ngoc Hospital.

The area surrounding the patient's house on Truc Bach Street has been disinfected by local health authorities. Houses from number 125 to 139 on Truc Bach Street have been placed under quarantine. The number of people under quarantine in this area is currently unknown.

The crew members of flight VN0054 were also quarantined.

Vietnam has forwarded all information related to the patient's travel history to the British and French diplomatic agencies.

The 17th case broke a 22-day streak in which Vietnam had not recorded any new nCoV infections, excluding the 16 people who had recovered.

As of 6 PM on March 6th, Vietnam had 23,228 people under centralized or home quarantine, an increase of nearly 9,000 compared to yesterday, and 101 suspected cases were quarantined in hospitals.

Due to the complex developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, from 6:00 AM on March 7th, all passengers entering Vietnam (including Vietnamese citizens and foreigners) are required to complete a mandatory electronic health declaration. Ho Chi Minh City will implement the electronic declaration from 0:00 AM on March 7th.

After declaring their health status, those arriving from or passing through affected areas will be required to undergo 14 days of centralized quarantine. To date, four countries—China, South Korea, Iran, and Italy—are considered to be in the affected areas.

The Covid-19 outbreak originated in Wuhan, Hubei province in December 2019 and quickly spread throughout China. By the evening of March 6th, Covid-19 had appeared in over 90 countries and territories, including many European countries, with the number of infected people exceeding 100,000.

Italy today reported over 700 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in the country to over 3,800. It also has the second highest number of COVID-19 deaths in the world, after China, with 148 fatalities.

Germany and France also recorded a surge in new infections. The number of positive COVID-19 cases in Germany doubled in just one day to over 500. France detected more than 154 new infections, including a member of parliament, bringing the total number of positive cases in the country to 577, with 9 deaths.
