This is the first thoracic aortic replacement surgery performed in the Central Highlands region.
The surgery was performed by Kon Tum General Hospital with the assistance and technical support of doctors from Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
Previously, on June 4, Mr. A Suk was hospitalized with severe chest pain. Through X-rays and tests, doctors diagnosed the patient with a ruptured thoracic aortic aneurysm.
According to Dr. Pham Thanh Viet (specialist 1, non-thoracic, cardiovascular, Kon Tum General Hospital), this is a common disease for the elderly and people with high blood pressure. If these patients do not receive emergency surgery in time and have to be transferred to a higher-level hospital, it is very dangerous, they can easily have a ruptured blood vessel and die during the transfer process.
Doctor Viet added that in the case of patient A Suk, social insurance will cover the case, but if the lower-level hospital cannot handle it and must transfer it to a higher-level hospital, the patient will have to pay a lot of money (the cost of laparoscopic surgery is 600 million VND and open surgery is 100 million VND).
Thus, the successful surgery performed at Kon Tum General Hospital has opened up prospects to help poor patients in the province./.
