(Baonghean) -According to Nghe An Statistics Office, this year's winter-spring crop, the total cultivated area reached 233,711 hectares, an increase of 4,056 hectares. However, due to severe cold at the beginning of the season and unusual weather in the middle of the season, the growth and development of crops were affected, some key crops: corn, potatoes and peanuts all decreased in both yield and output.

Corn planting area is 43,150 hectares, down 2,636 hectares compared to the previous winter-spring crop. Of which, winter corn area decreased by 1,787 hectares, spring corn decreased by 849 hectares. Winter-spring corn yield is estimated at 41.02 quintals/hectare, down 1.42 quintals/hectare; output is estimated at 177,000 tons, down 8.9%, equivalent to a decrease of 17,302 tons.

Sweet potato planting area is 8,859 hectares, down 928 hectares compared to last year. Also due to bad weather, productivity decreased by 1 quintal/hectare, output reached only 58,500 tons, down 7,105 tons compared to the previous crop.

Peanuts are the main crop in the group of short-term industrial crops and are an agricultural export product of Nghe An province. This winter-spring crop also decreased in both area and productivity. The peanut planting area is 19,241 hectares, down 893 hectares compared to last year; the average yield is 21.31 quintals/hectare, down 0.48 quintals/hectare; the output is 41,000 tons, down 2,862 tons compared to the previous crop.

Thus, in the field of cultivation, except for cassava and beans, which have increased slightly (bean and vegetable output increased by 3,025 tons), sugarcane area is stable (23,030 hectares), the remaining crops have decreased in productivity and output. To compensate for the production value of the industry, especially the food shortage (about 27,654 tons), the agricultural sector of Nghe An province is directing the production of the upcoming summer-autumn crop in a drastic manner, striving to exceed all three targets: area, productivity and output compared to the previous summer-autumn crop.
