Solutions to protect and improve environmental quality and effectively respond to climate change
(Baonghean) - The environment has become a difficult "problem" and a factor that significantly affects the quality of sustainable development in our country. Therefore, at the 11th Congress, our Party proposed 6 solutions to focus on implementing to contribute to protecting and improving environmental quality, proactively and effectively responding to climate change and preventing natural disasters:
- Raise awareness of environmental protection, link environmental protection tasks and goals with socio-economic development; innovate the mechanism of resource management and environmental protection; incorporate environmental protection content into strategies, planning, development plans of sectors, fields, regions and programs and projects; new investment and construction projects must ensure environmental requirements. Strictly implement the roadmap for handling and relocating facilities causing environmental pollution.
- Perfect the legal system on environmental protection; build strong enough sanctions to prevent and handle violations; overcome degradation, restore and improve environmental quality.
- Implement well the afforestation program, effectively prevent deforestation, forest fires and arbitrary and illegal conversion of forest land; increase the area of nature reserves; effectively manage, exploit and use land, water, mineral and other natural resources; limit and gradually eliminate the export of unprocessed resources.
- Focus on developing a green, environmentally friendly economy; implement sustainable production and consumption; gradually develop clean energy, clean production, and clean consumption; promote socialization of environmental protection work, develop environmental services, and waste treatment.
- Strengthen research, forecasting of hydrometeorology, climate change and impact assessment to proactively and effectively implement solutions to prevent natural disasters and national programs on responding to climate change, especially rising sea levels.
- Strengthen international cooperation to coordinate actions and seek international community assistance in dealing with climate change. This is an important solution not only for our country in general but also for Nghe An in particular. Flash floods in mountainous districts of our province are the clearest evidence that we are being affected and impacted by the gradual loss of forest area from neighboring Laos; in addition, the coastal areas are also affected by rising sea levels...
