Livestock farmers using banned substances will be heavily fined.
On January 21, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will send a Directive to provinces to strengthen inspection of the use of banned substances in livestock farming to ensure a clean food supply before and during the Lunar New Year.
Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry Hoang Thanh Van said: Following the direction of Minister Cao Duc Phat on the implementation of inspection and handling of livestock facilities using banned substances, provinces and cities across the country have taken strong action, they have established inspection teams to continuously inspect facilities and livestock households in the area. Some provinces and cities have handled very strictly such as Hanoi, Da Nang, Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc and the situation has improved a lot.

These inspections have had a strong impact on livestock farmers, they have gradually changed their awareness and stopped using banned substances. Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has also had 2 inspection teams, one team went to the southern provinces, the other team went to inspect the northern provinces. In general, after implementing the content of implementing banned substances, the situation has decreased a lot. However, in some localities, the implementation has not been drastic, so livestock farmers still secretly use banned substances.
According to Mr. Van, on January 20, the Department of Animal Husbandry also received information that the inspection team of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development discovered that a herd of pigs in Xuan Dong commune (Cho Gao district, Tien Giang) was using the banned substance Salbutamol. On the afternoon of January 20, the Department reported to Deputy Minister Vu Van Tam about the above incident. On January 21, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will send a Directive to the provinces to strengthen the inspection of the use of banned substances in animal husbandry to ensure the supply of clean food before and during the Lunar New Year.
The Department of Animal Husbandry requires provinces to continue sending inspection teams to inspect all livestock facilities; focusing on inspections in new localities and areas where households are newly discovered to be using banned substances; repeat offenders will be severely punished. Areas at high risk of using banned substances will be continuously inspected. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will continue to send inspection teams to coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of provinces to strengthen supervision and inspection.
